Discover Cartagena by Locals: what do users think?
Ray Jackson: This vacation was my first time visiting Colombia, and it definitely won't be my last. Why? It was the amazing people that we met in Cartagena that made a lasting impression. Even though we originally planned to only book 1 tour with Discover Cartagena, we ended up booking 2, because the first experience was so incredible. Our first experience with Discover Cartagena was a tour of the public market, "Mercado de Bazurta." For me, this was the "real" Cartagena experience. We mixed and mingled with the hardworking people of Cartagena as they sold and bought all types of stuff. From fresh seafood, to beautiful and tasty produce. They even had a record shop in this market. I believe just about any and everything was sold here. We even bought lunch while there. But what differentiated this tour from other tours that we did during our stay was our phenomanal tour guide and host, Maria, aka Mayu. I believe Mayu is the owner of Discover Cartagena, and her passion, energy, and engaging personality is what made this experience. The moment that Mayu grabbed my hand and began teaching me how to dance Champeta while standing in front of the record shop at the public market, I knew I was all in. As a lover of music, the last thing that I expected to learn and experience at the "farmers market", lol, was how to dance to a music style that was completely foreign and fascinating to me. It was so surreal! At that very moment is when I shouted out that I'm booking a second experience with Discover Cartagena, which was "Learning to Dance Salsa." Before I share a little bit about that, I want to say that Mayu is the brand. In other words, there are some brands, that it's the product or service that makes the brand, but in this case, it's the person. If you're looking for a "cookie cutter" experience of Cartagena, then book anybody you want. But if you're truly seeking to experience Cartagena, especially like a local, then book Mayu with Discorver Cartagena. To cap off this experience, Mayu took us to the neighborhood that she grew up in, and we ate our lunch that we bought at the market. I don't know of any other place where you would get that same experience. It's just incredible. So the evening of the next day is when we went on our second experience with Mayu's Discover Cartagena. We learned how to dance Salsa, then we went to several spots to dance amongst the local crowd. Even though I love music and dancing, I'm introverted and self-conscious when dancing in front of other people, especially, when I'm the outsider. However, Mayu and the instructor did an awesome job in making me feel comfortable, and confident in learning how to Salsa. For the most part, everyone in our group was new to dancing Salsa, so I was good with the overall vibe. I know I'm not good enough to ever be on the tv show "Dancing with the Stars", but who cares I had a lot of fun. So much so that when it came time for me to leave, because it was getting late, I felt like the little kid having to leave early from his best friends birthday party begging his mom to let him stay longer, lol. I had that much fun! Once again, it was Mayu's passion, her love of the city and it's people is what made this experience incredible.I highly recommend that if you're fortunate enough to visit Cartagena, you should definitely connect with, and book your experience through Discover Cartagena!
Jenny Andry: A group of 9 of us booked a private food tour with Discover Cartagena via Airbnb experiences. With little expectation in mind, we were paired with the amazing tour guide, Marlon! We stopped at 6 local spots (+ a grocery store! which I personally love doing while traveling…a true glimpse into real life), learned their histories, tried their specialities, and were told stories from the POV of a local in between it all. 100% my favorite day while visiting; it gave color and life to my view of Cartagena that would otherwise not have happened. Marlon also went so far to recommend other spots around town for the rest of our stay and booked our group of 11 dinner at a friend's restaurant. What??Thanks for providing this great offering. I hope this business pays your Locals well.
Luisa Hernandez: Las mejores vacaciones gracias a Maria y Marlon.
Eric Schmidt: This was a great way to get to know the food culture of the city. I’d recommend doing this trip early on your visit and keeping a map handy so you can revisit the locations later 10/10!
YEISON BASTO CASTRO: Encantadora, maravillosa, experiencias inolvidables
Laura Cantwell: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueWe had a fantastic time with Maria learning about Cartagena's history and culture. She introduced us to some delicious foods that we definitely wouldn't have discovered on our own. Maria is so much fun, we loved it!
Patrick: Maria, was great! Always very knowledgeable and informative on the tour. If your looking for a 1 of a kind experience. Look no further. 😉
Justin Pendleton: This tour was absolutely one to remember. I’ve told everyone about all of the wonderful things we learned during our tour of Palenque. My tour guide was funny, had a great personality, and was well versed in the local culture. I wish I could give more stars as we had an excellent experience!
Derrick Phillips: Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, fun and personable. We had a great time. I would highly suggest using Discover Cartagena
Dawn Neer: Our tour guide was amazing. We had the best time during this tour and learned so much. We tried amazing food. The empeñadas de pollo were our favorite. So much so, we went back 3 times during our trip to get them. It was one our favorite experiences.
Luis Saraza: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueDiscover Cartagena has a great service, amazing knowledge about old town, culture and city history, tourist guide is really professional and the vibes/Energy are/is so good
RJ LS: My tour guide was passionate, genuine, talkative, full of energy, and is honest. I could sense or tell by the way the locals were around her that they trust her and have welcomed her as a family. I booked two tours with her: the Palenge tour and the Bazurto tour. She naturally spoke to you as if a friend. Not for one moment it felt like a script. She took great care of me and even helped me find where I can buy/special order dried fish! My father was happy hahaha! I would recommend this place. You won’t feel morally guilty for taking it unlike other tour guides/agencies.
Brad Falk: So much fun! Great storytelling and fun way to see old town. Ask for Maria, she made for a great tour
Jasper Platz: Our tour guide gave us such an amazing introduction to Cartagena and its history. She clearly knows so much about the city's origins and brought her our personality and enthusiasm which made with fun and entertaining. Will recommend her to anyone heading to Cartagena in the future.
Chelsea Cassell: My sister and I booked the Market Tour with Discover Cartagena and we had such a great experience, I definitely recommend this for anyone looking to be a part of the Colombian Culture. It is a little off-the-beaten path for most tourists, a hidden gem. We explored explored the local market amongst Cartageneros working and shopping for their families. We tried all sorts of interesting fruits and foods. The fried fish was so good, do not hesitate to try it! We saw a famous local artist at work and hear stories of some of the market's oldest vendors. Our guide was so friendly and how they interacted with everyone really made it special.Highly recommend. Make time for this tour in your trip, you won't regret it!
Andrew Holt: Our experience was nothing short of amazing. Our guide made us feel like long lost friends. Her attention to our every need and her desire to make our experience memorable were truly outstanding. I highly recommended you book an experience when in Cartagena!
Quatro Gon: Best agency in town.Maria is a wonderful person. She loves what she does.Peter from Germany
Abel Tasman: Great salsa-dancing with locals -experience in December 2019, would recommend!
Doctor K: I visited Cartagena back in April 2019. I knew absolutely no one in Colombia and knew very little Spanish. I decided to book a tour through Discover Colombia by Locals. Maria was our tour guide. She guided us through the streets of Cartagena. We tasted the most delicious foods from fruits to candies to fried fish, yucca, and beers. We ate so much on the tour. The tour made me experience Cartagena in a way I never thought I would. I highly recommend Discover Cartagena.
Victoria Palmeri: Fantastic tour guides who accommodated our large group. Went salsa dancing horseback riding and took a catamaran out to the islands. Super friendly and helped us find the off beaten course!
Jordan Ogier: Highly recommend! Best guide you could ever imagine. Great communication and never ending entertainment. Made the trip unforgettable!

Port of Cartagena: what do users think?
C Pavón: Had a great time and just walked from the cruise ship.
John Carnahan: See for yourself...
M Dymond: We didnt go into town but instead went to a tourist shopping area next to the port. There was lots of wild life good and decent shopping. Prices were fair.
Joseph King: Nice, clean, friendly people and staff. The aviary and wild life at the cruise terminal were fantastic. Interesting country, would visit here again.
Lorin Jacobs: While on a Royal Caribbean cruise, we stopped here. They had a fair amount of local wildlife and a 6 area to buy souvenirs and the likeWhile sitting down at the Juan Valdez coffee shop, a monkey came over and wanted to share my iced coffee. The souvenirs were a great price. The coffee was similarly priced to what I would expect in the USA.
Tom Shott: Nice free stop and easy walk from the cruise ships. The experience is full of all kinds of wildlife in an open zoo format. It's very clean as attendants are keeping it picked up. The gift shop is very clean and air conditioned. Prices are reasonable. Have Fun!
Rick Stewart: Can't see much from ths ship. Need shore trup to see the old city.
Elizabeth Kibby: Absolutely loved the Eco Oasis area at the edge of the port. Lots of birds including flamingos, toucans and peacocks. There are monkeys, sloths, tortoise and anteater as well.
Lez González: Excellent
Walter McAllister: Came off the cruise ship and visited this. Was a neat experience in this area. The animals running around and your in there domain. Very friendly and neat to be with exotic animals. We as a family enjoyed this.
Xi Chen: Very nice port oasis!
Jonathan Beaudry: You can spend the day there! It was... Awesome!
Christof Z.: Cartagena hat mich sehr positiv überrascht. Eine sehr schöne Stadt.
Holger Ludwig: Toller Ort.
Hier besser kein Geld wechseln!
maria peralta: amazing nice cityfriendly beautiful people
Terry Gregory: Very good especially the little zoo
Cody Paseka: What a great cruise port!

Rafael Núñez International Airport: what do users think?
Juan Irlas: Something small, but very well distributed.
Julio Mc: The head of the airport security filter was wrong, he did not let me enter a patacon steamroller that I bought in Andres beef. It seems to me that he likes it better. I THINK IT IS AN ABSURD TRIP AT 2 PM. I ALMOST MISSED THE FLIGHT BECAUSE OF THAT. VERY BASIC AND OLD AIRPORT FOR SUCH AN INTERNATIONAL DESTINATION. I AM A FOREIGNER
Michael Hofer: Kleiner alter Flughafen.
Alexandra Marin: To board the plane, you must travel through a large part of the runway on foot
Christopher Barth: Only reason for a 4 star is the immigration line, other than that, small airport with 7 terminals. Very small, easy to get into and out of, just not enough workers in the immigration section as it took 1.5 hours to get through!
NMaya ventas: Cool to accompany loved ones again before traveling
MUJICA REYES: It should be bigger and better... In keeping with its status as an international airport.
Carolina Cante: You find commerce and diverse food... It is not the cheapest place to buy but for a desire it is perfect.
Cesar Sanabria: This is the worst airport I have ever been when I was departing one of the very rude lady's that work for spirit started calling some names and she called my name an my baby girls name that is 6 months old they took us to this very small space to do a tsa swap but guess what there was no tsa agent or nothing it was the same rude lady from spirit that did the swap after being 35 minutes inside that small place more and more people keep coming to get swap for sings of explosive I started to tell the lady to please let us out after the swap because there was way too many people and I was afraid that we may get sick since it was such a small place, she didn't care one bit after 40 minutes they finally took us out we got on our plane got home and two days later guess what I got covid my 6 months baby girls got it too had to take to the hospital and all my family is sick I am colombian and this experience was horrible.
Eduardo Elías Acosta Camarillo: Excelente
Jean David Salvador Tirado: Good airport has a large waiting room and very neat
Diego Bautista: Too crowded and the migration process took too long! They should improve that incredible time what do you have to wait to enter the country and the airport needs remodeling
Moises Blanco: Very organized, and friendly people
Jose Vega: It is ok
claudia prieto: It is easy to locate, it has air conditioning, I liked it very much, I love Cartagena.
Roberto Ardila González: The attention in the airline module was good; the national boarding room is comfortable.
Eric DeBaugh: Looks like a run down bus terminal
A Gómez: Excellent attention
Dr. Abby: Relatively small and warm. Boarding occurs outside.

ADRIANA NINO CORTES: They did not give me information

martha isabel felaifel lopez: Excellent place very close to the beach, the apartments are very complete and clean, everything is highly recommended.

Yaneth Murte: The man was very kind, unfortunately the studio apartment that they assigned us was not as the publication said, it did not have a balcony and sadly it had a very strong smell of mold that ended up hurting us because my husband and I are asthmatics so we arrived at the hospital, the take kitchen power did not work and pots were counted, we had to keep the windows open to breathe, there are too many apartments in the building we were assigned the studio apartment on the 22nd floor and the elevator was very slow so we had to go up and down 22 floors in several times, a point in favor of the view from the sale, the proximity to the beach, that there are supermarkets nearby, food places in general, the location is very good, to improve check where the smell of humidity comes from and thus solve this issue that It is very delicate for people's health and the attention of the people at the reception attended us by a man who was very fast, because there were too many guests, the owner of the apartment artaestudio had not made the reservation and did not know what to do and a girl who, on the contrary, asked one leg for permission to move the other, so the check-in issue was quite long and complicated
Yerlis Ospino: Excellent service

Kimberly Guerin: We stayed at the Hyatt Cartagena for a family vacation. Isabel checked us in and was super accommodating. Her customer experience skills are superb. We arrived a couple of hours before checking, she graciously provided a hospitality room for us to change our clothes. While we were out exploring the city, she had our luggage conveniently transported to our room and emailed me. I appreciate the level of service she provided!Rooms: We booked a suite and it was just what we needed; 2 rooms 1 master and 2nd room with 2 twin size beds. Balcony overlooking the water. The pullout couch was super convenient for our family of 5 and the room was spacious.Safety: One of the reasons we decided to stay at the Hyatt was for safety purposes. We have stayed at the Hyatt in other countries and felt extremely safe.I like the idea of having to take 2 sets of hotels to get tothe room. This provides a layer of security bc you gave to go to the main lobby to access the room elevator.Walkability: The hotel is conveniently located in Boca Grande, next to a mall with many shops and in front of a grocery store. It's a couple of mins away via Uber to the Walled City.Food & drinks: We had room service, the food was good and priced reasonably. The drinks by the pool were amazing. We ordered mojitos and they were great!
Emilce Lopez: Everything perfect, very good and very beautiful.
claudia prieto: The hotel is new. Luxury, spectacular, spacious rooms with an incredible view, intelligent climate inside the rooms that ensure a restful sleep, the food is delicious buffet and à la carte, there are several restaurants and a pool area for adults and families. Spectacular pool environment with dj that enlivens everything. The hotel is very large, very safe, the attention of all the staff is first class, luxury at all costs. I loved it, I will surely return to the hyatt chain. Highly recommended.

Jay Peralta: I had such an amazing stay at this Hyatt for a 6 day trip to Cartagena. The views are gorgeous, though it is such a shame the beach is being completely rebuilt so during our stay we just saw construction every day by the water. The service was exceptional and the restaurants were all great. All of the pools have a great view and are never too busy.
Yanis & Yei: Here you find healthy eating and gourmet dishes. It has several restaurants open to the public, amacagua and kokaú. Recommended to visit if you are in Cartagena
Nearby activities: Dit hotel is heel centraal gelegen.
Alejandrina Peralta Cambumba: Excellent place, attentive staff, helpfulRooms: hermosa vista, limpia, comoda
Henry Rugeles: Just amazing! Expensive, though! However, the beach across the street is closed under construction.Rooms: Feel and decor of a mid-town Manhattan high-end apartment. Hi tech. Full of modern amenities.Nearby activities: Next to a mall, but very not much else within walking distance.Safety: Super safe. Front desk @ 11th. Floor. Switch to guarded different bank of elevators to access rooms. Need room key to go just to your floor.Food & drinks: Breakfast is amazing. Excellent d'oeuvres and coffee in the conference rooms area.
Hugo G. Guzmán: The best.Rooms: Spacious and well-lit. Very comfortable bed.Nearby activities: Many nearby restaurants, shopping stores and malls.Safety: Well monitored at all times. Staff by elevators in both the lobby and the main entrances.

Almirante Cartagena Hotel: what do users think?
Estefany Parra Cardona: I think that a few years ago it could be called a 5-star hotel, but currently it is no longer. The photo of the pool is a lie, it's very small, so it's always full and apart from everything they close it at 8 pm. Very regular customer service, mostly from the people who serve breakfast and the bar located by the pool. There are many people offering tours at the entrance of the hotel, very harassing, quite annoying…
philip lawrence: I rate this hotel a Minus 1. I am in Cartagena EVERY 2 months and decided to try the Almirante. WORST thing I could have done. We checked in, me and fiancée, both WITH passports. The day after checking in, the hotel security team rushed the elevator we were using to go to our room and asked my fiancée if she was registered in the hotel, what an embarrassment, other guests looking etc., like we had done something!! THEY ASKED HER THAT BECAUSE SHE IS A COLOMBIANA, SO, THEY, THE SECURITY TEAM, RACIALLY PROFILED HER!! I Spoke to the manager the following morning and demanded they make things right for the embarrassment they had caused us due their inept security team (my fiancée cried the whole night because of what happened with the security team !!) The manager agreed that the hotel was at fault, that the security team never should have done what they did and that they would 'comp' us our room charges for the stay to make things right!!The problem is, THEY DID IT, and they did it because it has been tolerated all along, that is my problem with the whole thing She (hotel manager) fully agreed that what happened NEVER should have happened so, they would make things right.Just today, about 10 days after our trip, I was making another reservation at this hotel (because the hotel manager had, I thought. handled everything professionally) when I received an email from the hotel manager saying that She would not honor the room comp but would adjust an overcharge of about $35 from our prior bill. When I asked WHY, SHE SAID that she Never Agreed to the room comp in our meeting in her office on the day in question (I have emails from her admitting their security teams fault!!!! ) Money is one thing but, lies / integrity are another!!I judge a company by their word which is their integrity and not by the cost of services more times than not. With that being said, I would NEVER recommend this property to anyone as, I do not trust them, totally mis-managed!!!! I stay at the Dan Cartagena ALL THE TIME and have NEVER had any problems of any kind, and the rooms are twice the size with Balcony's and the hotel is ON THE BEACH, no walking to the beach!! DO yourself a FAVOR and run as fast as you can AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL PROPERTY. ALSO, THIS IS ABOUT A 3 STAR PROPERTY, VERY DATED AND VERY SMALL ROOMS (AND WE HAD THE BEST ROOM THE HOTEL OFFERED!! )

He was canonized as a saint in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII.You can spend a good hour or so touring the church, garden, artwork, and the rooms where Claver lived and worked. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in Cartagena.

Alessio Astolfi: I had the chance to visit the Santuario de San Pedro Claver during a trip to Cartagena, Colombia, some ten years ago, and it was definitely an incredible experience. I am a person who has a great love for history and culture, therefore I was very taken aback by this sanctuary's significant past.In the centre of Cartagena's historic area, the Santuario de San Pedro Claver is a beautifully maintained Jesuit church and convent from the 17th century. It bears the name of Saint Peter Claver, a Jesuit priest of Spanish descent who dedicated his life to assisting slaves who were taken from Africa to Cartagena. The sanctuary provided these slaves with food, shelter, and medical attention while acting as a haven for them during a trying moment in history. It was a significant symbol of compassion and hope. The Santuario de San Pedro Claver's architecture is extremely stunning. The facade's exquisite detailing and elaborate designs are evidence of the architects' and artisans' expertise and craftsmanship. The sanctuary's interior is as breathtaking, featuring magnificent murals, pieces of art, and sculptures that depict Saint Peter Claver and his contributions to humankind. The opportunity to view Saint Peter Claver's relics, which are stored in a small room inside the sanctuary, was one of the pleasures of my trip. The saint's skull and bones are among the relics, which serve as a potent reminder of the sacrifices he made during his life and the influence he had on countless others.Overall, anyone with an interest in history, culture, or spirituality should definitely pay a visit to the Santuario de San Pedro Claver. Everyone who visits will undoubtedly have a lasting impression of this absolutely exceptional and inspirational location.
Sebastian Fürst Fotografie - Hochzeitsfotograf: What a beautiful church and place ❤️❤️❤️
Walberto Martinez: His story is very beautiful and perfect to enrich your faith
Laelia Milleri Photography: Check the opening time before you go. On the day when we were there the church was closed until the evening, so unfortunately I didn't get to see it inside. Enjoyed watching the busy and lively area surrounding it.
TheFABYMARC: Excellent place to listen to the Eucharist, it is super fresh, spacious and I love the preaching of the priest, apart from its architecture it is worth admiring, I like the mass at 12, since afterward I can have a coffee and walk the streets of the historic center, they are a bit empty at that time
Carlos Hernández: Historic site of the walled city in Cartagena de Indias, with excellent cafes and restaurants around it
Kelly Cabrera: Beautiful
harold david gil muñoz: It is a good place to visit in Cartagena
Gabriel Garcés: Good experience for religious tourism. Rest the remains of San Pedro Claver. It also has a museum from the colonial era.
