Crazy Salsa, Salsa School: what do users think?
Sharom Andrea: We had so much fun during our class and having Esteban as an instructor was a great experience. He was very friendly, patient and thorough explaining the different steps, how to lead and how to follow. My friends and I would’ve come back if we were to stay longer in Cartagena ❤️
Aline aline: I had a lot of fun. I went 2x
Katja Rissmann: We had 6 private sessions with Ruben and loved it! Would highly recommend as we learned so much and enjoyed the process :)
Emily Barrett: My husband and I did a 2:1 private class - we had never danced salsa before! Great teacher, we had a lot of fun & learned the basics. We wished we had longer to do a course!
Serena Romagnoli: My boyfriend and I paid for private classes. He had basically zero knowledge, me some basics. Ended up having a teacher just to have someone counting 1-2-3 5-6-7 for us while looking at herself on the mirror. End of it. End of her contribution.Sure she gave some directions to my boyfriend - so basic that I would have been able to do the same for free.Given me and my boyfriend had 2 different levels, I didn’t learn anything new.Cherry on top, we started late to look for the A/C remote but didn’t get the time back at the end. And to be honest, given the kind of experience, I wasn’t too sad.I read many positive reviews, I’m sure that if you take 14 h lessons they make a better investment on clients. But this is not private class, this is a nice and colorful tourist trap.
Karin Goetz: Guter Salsa-Unterricht
Charneice McKenzie: This is feedback for the school:The jump from beginner to intermediate was too much. Even the intermediate private lessons to the group lessons was a big jump. I am a dancer. I have been a dance instructor. And I wasn't getting the steps. The instructor...who is very nice...showed us 4 7-count sequence all at once. That was too much to remember! Then, without all of us having the hang of the steps, he went on to add another 7-count with a spin. I walked out. I wasn't having fun and I didn't want to pay for confusion. It felt like the Aunt Viv situation on Fresh Prince of Bel Aire. I'm just in Cartagena to have fun. Not compete at a high-level dance studio. My suggestion is to introduce 1 7-count sequence at a time. Observe if the students have caught on. Then add to it. Go at the pace of the students. No need to rush. I did have fun in the private lesson.
Lea Helfenstein: We took a private class for Salsa Cali style and Champeta. The teacher Natalia was excellent! We recommend it a lot.
Sandy Wolf: I took 14 hours of private lessons in 4 days! I wanted to level up my salsa and Bachata skills on my Cartagena vacation, and that's exactly what Crazy Salsa School did for me!I was so lucky and happy to have Esteban and Ruben as my own private teachers. Those 4 days were full of fun and challenges as my teachers customized each lesson to exactly what I wanted to work on and their assessment of what I needed to learn. Both of these guys encouraged me through my frustrations and were as excited as I was when I would finally get the steps we were working on. They were endlessly patient and encouraging, and incredibly skilled at unlocking the slight but important little changes to make to help me successfully do the steps. These teachers got me to do moves I never thought I could do. Not all great dancers can teach; these guys (and also Natalia, who taught a great styling lesson) do both brilliantly. And the owner, Esmeralda, was incredibly responsive and flexible with scheduling. She allowed me to schedule according to what my plans were the next day. Reasonably priced, wonderfully taught, Crazy Salsa should be your Cartagena dance home!
Heena Patel: Excellent Salsa class with a bar tour to practice afterwards. My instructor Esteban was amazing. He explained the steps well. We then went to two bars and were joined by another instructor where we practiced what we had learnt and had a few free drinks along the way.My only recommendation would be that it might be good to have a female and male instructor at the bar to help both genders practice.Would definitely recommend this Salsa Tour!
Guadalupe Maria Daldoz: Some geniuses! I took a very good class with Esteban and then I took the tour with Ruben, super friendly and safe on the tour, I went alone and I had a lot of fun.
Tue Nguyen: Is the school open?? Couldn't find the place. Not where it's supposed to be according to google maps
Joanna: I was in Cartagena for a week and I took private classes with Esteban- Salsa and Ruben- Bachata. I absolutely loved it they are very professional but at the same time we had so much fun while dancing. I’ve learnt a lot thanks to them. The easiest way to communicate with them is by WhatsApp 🤩
Ryan DuBois: Great school! They were very responsive and accommodating and I received a great lesson.A very good school! They responded quickly and the class was great.
Ji Pei: Me and my wife Had a great lessons.Instruction is very clear and we definitely enjoyed the experience
Raya Dzulynsky: Great private salsa class with Esteban. He was clear with his instructions and very patient with our questionable dance skills.
Deregnaucourt Jeremy: I had some courses there.Unfortunately, due to construction work, there was no way to have group class. There was a misunderstanding with the administrative assistant about the price. With 5 individual lessons taken, you got a 6th one free.Since I paid them individually, she declined this offer. I would have appreciated more flexibility as the credit cash machine was not functioning and I was keen to pay everything with my card. Also, this same person gave me my last course. I did not feel in confidence with her. She was judgy, having an attitude that does not favor to be relaxed.Despite that, I had Ruben, and this guy is incredible. A great teacher and a very funny guy! Go ahead with him without any concern :)
stellina Luna: Where is this place? I love to go but I can’t find it! It’s not where google maps says it is and the people around there have no idea what I am talking about! 😆Pls someone send some better directions
Manu Manu Negrete: It's a great place to learn how to dance Salsa ..they got expert teacher .
karina carrasco arredondo: Excellent place, very good teacher Rubén, breaking it 100%
alwayscoco1984: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI had 6 classes with Mauricio, he was a fantastic teacher! He made learning salsa very fun and interesting! The hour class always pass by too quickly because it's so fun! Highly recommend Crazy Salsa in Cartagena! Hope to come back and continue the lessons with Mauricio in the future :)

Centro Catalina Spanish School: what do users think?
Nicole Chacon: Centro Catalina is a place where everything is done with passion and love. The team strives to give their best every day. Not only Spanish is taught, Colombian culture is also lived with many activities to guarantee an authentic experience beyond conventional tourism. Learning Spanish in cultural immersion guarantees rapid learning of the language. Colombian Spanish is considered by many to be the best to learn. The cities of Medellín and Cartagena are charming and allow an experience in very diverse contexts and regions, between the Caribbean and the Andes.
Camilo Ramirez: Great school, I learned a lot from you. I hope I can come back soon
Valérie Roy: Thanks for everything! cool experience
Lukas Niemeier: Great school. Perfectly organized with very skilled teachers, good equipment and a lot of fun during classes. I went for 30h/week for two weeks. One in Medellin and one in Cartagena. The Different knowledge levels of the students were taken into account and the groups built fit well together. Thanks again for a great time!
Gaby Sierra: Excellent!
Laura Liszewski: Really nice experience in this school, recommend!
Tom Lovett: I cannot recommend this school enough. I am absolutely amazed that. I'm able to have spontaneous conversations with locals about a host of topics, considering I only did four weeks of classes, starting from zero. I was worried that doing well in classes wouldn't carry over to the real world, but that has not been the case at all.The classes themselves were really enjoyable. My teachers were great, the other students were great. We cracked plenty of jokes while still learning new grammar and vocabulary. The school was very helpful when it came to logistics as well. I literally enrolled on a Friday afternoon for Monday morning classes. Also, the school allowed me to print documents and received a package for me.Cannot recommend this school highly enough.
Laura Shadley: Had a wonderful experience at Centro Catalina - Cartagena. The instructors and staff were outgoing and helpful. School always flew by because it was so much fun. I was nervous to speak with people in Spanish, but I gained a lot of confidence while I was there! The school organized a lot of fun activities that allowed you to experience more of the city. They also organized a trip to Isla Grande on the weekend, which was incredible! I stayed with an awesome host family very close to the school. I can't say enough good things!
Dario Paolillo Mendoza: Super escuela, Muchas gracias, thanks a lot for the great time! The support, activities, treatment and personal are fantastic. Colombia and the School has stolen my heart and they are like a second home and like a Family. May God always bless you in Name of Jesus! Bendiciones mi gente bella
Jim C.: I had a great time a Centro Catalina. The school is located in the historic center of Cartagena, with lots of restaurants, shops and sights in a short walking distance.Teachers and staff are just awesome and made my stay a unique and special experience. Everybody is super friendly and helpful. All in all a great experience, defenitely a school that I can recommend.
lisa muzzin: This is a great place to learn or improve your Spanish. Not only are the teachers and classes of top quality but there are free events most days as well. This helps you to get to know other students and the city and to practice your spanish even more. I really enjoyed my time here. Thanks everyone!
Max N: Great Experience
Loris Contro: I spent 6 FUNtastic weeks learning Spanish and everything I could about the Colombian heritage and culture at Centro Catalina, and would have spent a lot more than that if I had had more time. The teachers, facilities, customer service, extra activities and anybody who works in there with great passion: everything was excellent! I attended both schools in Medellin and Cartagena, and I strongly recommend them.
Thomas Augsten: School was great fun, wonderful staff, and evening as well as weekend activities are organized. Stayed for a 1-week elementary course and would come back. Also limited number of affordable rental rooms available in a safe neighborhood.
HAMOOD AL TOQI: Great school great stuff the best experience to learn Spanish highly recommend
Caleb Solofra: Great school! Classes allowed me to dig deep into not only the language but also the culture of Medellín. I have traveled a lot, and this school is the most friendly and made me most comfortable. Here’s a list of other great things:-provided a fantastic host family-top notch classes-good location in Medellín (lots to do)-optional evening activity provided each day (like a movie, salsa classes, etc)-clean facility
Brian Eaten: Perfect Spanish school for a perfect experience. S/o to David
Danny Lee: I truly can recommend centro catalina for every person who wants to learn spanish - doesnt matter which level you have! The facilities, the staff, the teachers and the way they teach are top notch! Every day they have an activity for the afternoon and also for the weekends, like salsa class, movies, city- or graffiti-tours, etc. Also the school is in the middle of centeo historico and so you can find many restaurants, bars and shops just next to it! On this point i want to say MUCHAS GRACIAS to all of the staff, especially to David, who is an amazing "papi"!! All of you, keep going the way you do!! Mucho gusto.. jackie! ;)

Spanish World Institute - Spanish School: what do users think?
Niko Schmuck: A week in this school was a wonderful experience for me. Good teachers who made time for me outside of class, during breaks, during lunch and even after school. Many thanks to Maria, Luz and Manuel for the exciting discussions and your patience. At the beginning of December there were only a few students in the school, so I was practically having private lessons. But also the bike tour, walk through Cartagena's old town and bossa nova concert were a nice opportunity to learn more about the city and life here. Getsemaní, a district where the school is located, is really lively and offers so much to enjoy Caribbean life with its colorful houses, cafes and small shops.
Hans-Jakob Schäfer: Very nice school, good teachers, small classes and afternoon activities with locals. Also helped me with organizing my further holidays and other things like local SIM card and vaccination. You don’t do a mistake when choosing this school.
Carsten Huber: Learn Spanish (also possible as an educational holiday!) in one of the most beautiful cities in the world on the warm Caribbean Sea.SWI offers Spanish language holidays in the bohemian district of Getsemani in Cartagena. You learn here in a familiar, friendly atmosphere in small groups. The school is well equipped, has a great location with many nice restaurants and cafes just around the corner and has good, ambitious teachers.Cartagena is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a unique ambience, great restaurants and a legendary nightlife with many (salsa) clubs. CTG is only a 1.5 hour flight from BOG.Maria from SWI in Bogotá is your main contact for everything related to your language holiday. She organizes everything according to your wishes. In Cartagena, on the other hand, the very helpful Nahomy is your contact person.I can only warmly recommend this language school, the atmosphere in this city is unique, a perfect setting to learn Spanish and practice it on the spot!
Almar Vergunst: I had a really great time at spanish world institute. A great place to learn spanish with good teachers. I had two week of private lessons over here with two different teachers. Both teachers (Andrés and Nahomy) were really friendly and skilled in the things they doing. Thanks Andrés and Nahomy for this good time and the things you learned me! I will definitly come back to learn more.
Jay D'Alba: The Spanish World Institute. When you first enter you are greeted by the friends you have known forever, but you are meeting for the first time. They are your instructors who will lead you on a voyage into a culture like no other. This is the essence of the Spanish World Institute - here learning is fun!Having learning experiences in numerous countries, I can say without hesitation that The Spanish World Institute is the best!
Selina Wiggins: I enjoyed studying there and learned a lot. Also the activities outside the classroom were really nice. The teachers are friendly and Ana, who was my teacher, did a great job. A negative aspect in my opinion is that you don‘t get a skript with the rules, grammar etc. but only single sheets about the topic that you discuss in class.
Blair Healy: The Spanish school was fantastic. Highly recommended, Maria and her staff create a safe, comfortable environment in which to learn and practice the language, but will make sure to tailor your learning experience to the pace best suited to you.
Eglenis Garcia: Good school
Laurin Rienhardt: I spend 6 weeks at the Spanish world institute to really become fluent in Spanish and I am more than happy about my time here. Right from the beginning the teachers took really good care of me and adapted the classes to my level. Furthermore without having booked it, I had one to one tuition the entire time, which really helped a lot with my personal progress. I could always ask questions and would get helpful replies. Everybody is extremely friendly and also all the teachers speak English well, so it's not a problem, if your Spanish is a little lacking in the beginning. The location is great, cartagena is a beautiful city to spend some time and the teachers will be sure give you recommendations on what to do and even organize stuff for you. Very glad to have been here.
Steffen W: Muchas gracias a Ane y Ani! I had only one week, but still learned a lot. If possible, I will come back and continue my lessons. The two are the best Spanish teachers, so enthusiastic and truly seem to enjoy teaching spanish and also their culture.
Jessica Castro: Great school, it offers oportunity to practice spanish in a real context. Located in rhe trendy neighboorhood (getsemani)
Alec Altonen: I went to Spanish World Institute for one week. The professors are awesome and interactive. Come into this school at any spanish experience level. The school is easy to find and in a great location in town. Defintely worth it.
Ingebjørg Rygnestad: I studied at SWI in Cartagena for 3months in 2017, and after the first two weeks I noticed that things weren't exactly clean or the way it was supposed to be. A rude and exploiting manager is to blame for this. My main teacher was excellent in her job and the reason why I learned Spanish so good, but if the manager was to decide I would most likely have failed my exam in the end. The manager refused me to switch teacher, she put me in a lower level group of student to save money, even though there were teachers available. She was the one deciding my curriculum even though my teacher, who in fact is educated in the field and she not, wanted to do it otherwise which slowed down my progress. These are factors which has influenced my classes, but why I really can not recommend this place is because I know how she treats her staff. They get almost daily treatenings that if they don't do this and that they will be fired, she holds back the monthly payment and also forces her staff to pay for the extra expenses for the air-condition (which was higher due to a higher number of students). I have many more examples just as ridiculous as this one. And when 4 out of 6 staffmembers have been fired since I was there, it should go off some alarm bells when you choose your school. PS: Just a last funny story. The manager refused me to have classes with one of my teachers because she though that I would end up pregnant...what more can I say? Best wishes for my X-teachers
Christian Wörz: I studied here for almost 3 weeks and could really improve my Spanish! I was the only student in my group so I had like private classes with Victoria. The classes were really fun and well structured. It was a well balanced mix between grammar, exercises and conversation including some listening comprehension. Thank you very much Victoria! I did not give 5 stars because I would have preferred to meet more students there and to have more activities (like every afternoon). I think the school needs to invest more money in online marketing to attract more younger students from abroad. Besides the school is very beautiful and perfectly located in Getsemani!
Katie Johnson: I took a week of intensive classes before traveling across South America for the summer. It was a good way to get to know the language and to be able to practice speaking and listening. I thought the lessons were well rounded. I learned about grammar but was still about to practice speaking and listening and learn about Colombian culture. I was the only student in my class so I was able to receive extra attention. I would recommend SWI to anyone visiting Cartagena.
Carly Ellis: I really enjoyed learning at this school. Tania was a very nice teacher and helped me learn basic Spanish. I felt comfortable to ask questions and have come away with more knowledge than before. I would recommend to anyone :)
Stewart Martin: I think that SWI is one of the better schools in Cartagena. They generally have small class sizes (I was 1 on 1) which means that there is more attention for each student. I went to the school in Bogotá at the start of my time in Colombia and was able to continue from the same ciriculum when I arrived later in Cartagena. Having a school in both of these places is ideal for travellers looking to improve their spanish as they travel.
Lemoine Joachim: Very good school and the teachers are very friendly!
Alison Cortes: I took classes at Spanish World Institute in Cartagena for two weeks after taking classes at another school in El Centro. I preferred Spanish World Institute because I received personal attention and care from the teachers and administrators and felt like I was part of a family. The classes were very comprehensive and the focus was on what I wanted to work on, as opposed to a strict curriculum. The teachers took us on several excursions around the city and also arranged a Salsa class for all of the students, after which I ended up taking private lessons with the teacher at the school. The school is located in a beautiful part of Getsemani, close to Plaza de Trinidad. I recommend Spanish World Institute to anyone who is considering taking Spanish classes in Cartagena.
Caroline Gerber: I am studying spanish in this spanish school for two weeks and it is a very good experience.first there is a test you have to do and then your individual program will be prepared. that is very eficent. i like to learn in this school, because the teacher are very friendly and profesional. i am also teacher and am satisfied with spanish world insitute in cartagena. i would recommend to come here and learn spanish.

Nueva Lengua - Cartagena: what do users think?
Lily Meng: I had a great experience at Nueva Lengua, the teachers and staff are very nice and patient. They have good methods and offer many free fun activities after school.
Arielle Bernardin: I recently attended Nueva Lengua Cartagena Spanish School for 3 weeks and it was by far the best 3 weeks ever. The school was amazing with wonderful and knowledgeable teachers like Paula and Carolina. Paula was incredibly patient and kind, while Carolina went above and beyond with her engaging and upbeat teaching style. I miss them both dearly! They made learning so much fun that we looked forward to attending classes each day.On top of that, the weekly activities organized by the school were incredibly fun and entertaining; I always looked forward to them and especially loved how they put up a clear schedule on the wall to inform us about them. I also had the opportunity to meet such wonderful people from all around the world that I still keep in contact with. Thanks to their excellent teaching methods and engaging activities, my Spanish has improved tremendously.I would highly recommend Nueva Lengua to anyone who wants to learn or better their Spanish while having a great time. Thank you, Nueva Lengua Cartagena Spanish School, for an unforgettable experience!
Kaili Barnes: I came to Nueva Lengua to learn medical Spanish for my future care. I have only been here for 4 days and my Spanish has gotten so much better! The way they teach her is so incredible! The teachers a very supportive and you can tell they love their jobs! Everyone I have met here has said that this is one of the top programs in the world and I definitely think that is true. This program brings in so many people from so many different countries and it’s so wonderful to be around them all. My first week I have Gaby and Mayra as my teachers and they a wonderful!! I’m so excited for the next 4 weeks here!
Loes de Smet: My boyfriend and I followed the intense Spanish course for two weeks at the start of our trip to Colombia. The experience was amazing! The communication with the office went smoothely and the activities after school are fun and a great way to practice your Spanish. Our teachers (Mayra and Carolina) were really professional and you can see they have a passion for teaching and the Spanish language. They always motivated us and made learning a new language so much fun. We have learned so much in two weeks! Would definitely recommend others to go there as well.
Thomas Avedissian: Did 2 weeks of Spanish school at Nueva Lengua and it was a great learning experience! The teachers are very professional and fun (special shoutout to Mayra and Carolina) and the activities the school organizes are a great way to learn about Cartagena and Colombian culture.
ian paul: The school is a great place to enrol. The teachers are helpful, friendly and assist you regardless of what level of Spanish you have. It’s a great place to mix with like minded travellers so it doesn’t matter if you enrol by yourself or with a travelling buddy as there are daily activities for you to interact with fellow travellers if you choose to. I was fortunate to have Kevin, Mayra, Carolina and Paola as my main teachers but also had the pleasure of having Eli the dance teacher who is packed full of energy to help me going from having 2 left feet to pulling of salsa, merengue and bachata dance routines. I’m happy to have spent my time here.
Saludos 🇧🇷🇨🇴.
Robert Parkin: Professional, supportive, excellent tutors, amazingly good value.. highly recommended!
Arnold Bregman: I have had a great time at Nueva Lengua Cartagena. I combined my Spanish lessons with a business trip. The teachers are professional and push you to communicate in Spanish on the first day. Also, they organize everyday an activity in the city so you can learn and practice your Spanish with locals and other students.

Eventos & Producciones Cartagena: Excellent
pamela sosa: La casa del marqués is an educational-practical environment in which all sena apprentices demonstrate and practice what they have learned in a real environment, with real audiences and real diners. In this place classes are received and it is open to the public. The prices are affordable, the facilities are spacious, clean...On the first floor we find a cafeteria where barista apprentices and technicians will provide an excellent experience when you order a coffee.Next to it you will find the restaurant where the service will be like going to a 4-star restaurant. On the second floor we find a single VIP for meetings, rooms where one or another guest stays, a quite nice spa where you can receive massages and beautify yourself...On the third floor you will find a large terrace with a beautiful view of the customs square, which offers bar service. And there is a small viewpoint a little above the third floor where you can better appreciate the panoramic view of the city.I invite you to go and taste the food, the creations of the pastry and bakery guys, of the cooks and chefs in charge of the restaurant, of the team management of the technologists in management for A&B establishments, of the event decorators and of the pleasant experience that this place offers its visitors.
LAMEROCAR: Excellent historical place of the City of Cartagena.Let's hope we see each other after this quarantine is over.God bless you.
Adriana Dávila Ruiz: It is a workshop school of the Seine, the food is gourmet, exquisite prepared by gastronomy apprentices accompanied by the best gastronomy instructors in the sector
Thor Gökhan Erdal: The church and the museum are both interesting. It’s worth your money. San pedro’s remains are also in the alter open for everyone to see.

Letra Caribe: what do users think?
Princess Walsh: I was in Cartagena for about a year and wouldn't have been there that long if it weren't for Gustavo. He was, and is, an amazing teacher! He made sure that I applied what I learned in his classroom to the energetic streets of Cartagena. My comprehension of the Spanish language really grew just after a few classes. He has an in depth understanding of teaching and adult learning principles. My struggle was tenses and conjugation, as well as learning common words/phrases- I took Spanish in high school, but we all know how that goes lol. Gustavo gave me the confidence and literal words to help me improve my Spanish and enjoy my experience in Cartagena. I had a great time connecting with his other students who were only there for short amounts of time and those who living there for a couple years on work contracts. So happy to have met him- I learned so much!!
Shin Sode: It was really fun! I was super beginner of Spanish but got dramatic improvement, thanks to considerate and professional teachers. I will keep learning Spanish definitely!
Lisa Rosano: Gustavo is the best Spanish teacher I have ever had! His Spanish classes are dynamic and engaging. I learned more in a few days with Gustavo than I thought possible. He is amiable and presents information clearly and simply. He can work with your schedule and is willing to meet students in small groups and individually.I vacationed in Cartagena and included some Spanish classes in the trip. I looked forward to classes; they were a lot of fun and I was able to apply what I learned in lovely Colombia. I felt more confident speaking Spanish and practicing. I am inspired to keep on working on my language studies. Thank you!!!
Laura Chaumont: To all people who ask me where I learnt to speak Spanish (in 4 weeks!): Gustavo is behind this! I probably had good predispositions (knowing another Latin language) but here is what is excellent about Gustavo: he reads you and adapts his style, speed, and content to you! I had 4 hours of classes a day and Gustavo was very flexible in terms of schedule.I told him I was super serious about learning, wanted an intensive programme, and homework kept me busy every evening!Classes are focused on speaking whilst working on new vocabulary and grammar. The view from the classroom is breathtaking by the way - can be distracting at times ;)Gustavo is also simply a great soul and I was often invited to join him and his friends at dinners, drinks, etc: he really does care about his students and their experience in Cartagena and Colombia.I can only recommend Gustavo and Letra Caribe - I would not be at the Spanish level I am at today if it were not for him.100%!
LeeAnn Ungar: I took a month long trip to Colombia in December 2018 and decided for my first week that I would take Spanish lessons somewhere and i'm so glad that I chose Letra Caribe in Cartagena. Gustavo and his sister are fantastic teachers who plan lessons according to your skill level and they really boost your confidence level in speaking the language too. I was also lucky to be in a small group class with two other girls with a similar skill level as me. The classes don't feel like typical classes from a text book because you are speaking so much and talking about your own experiences (in Spanish!) that it just feels like you are having conversations with friends. I had basic travel knowledge of Spanish before I started classes and after one week I could confidently have full conversations with locals which added immensely to my trip as a whole. The value is excellent and I'm considering travelling back to Cartagena just for another week of lessons in the future. Cheers!
John Rothschild: This is my fifth time studying Spanish with Gustavo, of Letracaribe, doing “viviendo espanol” or living Spanish. This is a type of Spanish in which we explore the culture of Cartagena and meet all kinds of people while talking Spanish. Gustavo also speaks fluent English so he helps with any translation problems. We visited different barrios and explored life there. Also, we were able to experience some poets and culture in the making with visits to different institutions. At night, Gustavo and I met for dinner with his friends, many who also speak English. So in addition to Spanish during the day, I was able to have interesting contact with some of Gustavo's friends at night.I strongly recommend Gustavo if you are looking for a Spanish teacher. Even though I did “viviendo espanol”, Gustavo also teaches from a classroom. He is an extremely interesting and fun person to do Spanish with and if you are in Cartagena, there is no better person as your contact.
Ryne Sweeney: Gustavo is great. Any level he is genuine, friendly, and thoroughly knowledgable in English and of course Spanish. Lessons go quick and he makes it easy to learn. Whenever Im in Cartagena I take lessons with him. His events are great too. We went to spots only a Cartagenero would know. Highly recommended!
Toni R: Taking classes at Letra Caribe has been the highlight of my trip to Cartagena. If you need some Spanish practice whether you are beginner or advanced/staying in Cartagena for a week or a month, go to this school!!! Not only has my Spanish and confidence with speaking significantly approved in 1 week, but Gustavo and his sister are excellent teachers and tailor the clases based on YOUR needs. The scheduling is super flexible/accommodating, and the pricing is extremely affordable for the quality of these classes. I have taken many language classes in the past and this school has by far been the best I've ever experienced. Couldn't recommend them more
w koz: Letra Caribe is and amazing Spanish school I would recommend it to anyone who is considering Spanish lessons in Colombia. This is a small family run language school in a great location right next to colorful Calle 31 with good value restaurants and bars. Gustavo and his sisters are fantastic teachers, they adapt to your skill level and challenge you appropriately to get the best learning outcome. I had very limited time in Cartagena but wanted to squeeze in as much as possible so following a free assessment of my Spanish via Skype, Gustavo created a bespoke program of private lessons to work with the limited time I had. I would have 2 2-hour classroom sessions at a time followed by a 2-hour afternoon exploration lesson where the teacher would take me to a local market or a disadvantaged children foundation. This was really great as we practiced lots of conversation in Spanish whilst exploring Cartagena and the local culture at the same time. The school also arranged a home stay for me with a lovely family 20 minutes walk away so I was able to practice conversion with them as well outside of school. The costs of the lessons were really good value and it was easy to communicate with Gustavo via e-mail or Whatsapp ahead and during my stay in Cartagena.
Dileepan Siva: Gustavo is an exceptional teacher - from our first conversation, he made me realize how much more Spanish I knew than I had originally thought. He grounds his teaching in personal experience, which I now understand is the way everyone actually learns a language. For the first time in my life, I’ve overcome my fear of learning a second language. Highly recommend!
Tom V: Gustavo is an excellent teacher, perhaps the best teacher I have ever had. The lessons were tailored to our ability and were very effective at pushing our understanding forwards. We had 20 hours of lessons - we improved our Spanish a lot, and really enjoyed them at the same time. Highly recommended.
Floyd Garnett: I stayed in Cartagena an extra week to undertake some Spanish lessons with Gustavo (14 hours), hoping to give myself a foundation to speak some basic Spanish on the remainder of my trip. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, Gustavo was a great teacher and really helped me a lot. I achieved exactly what I wanted and enjoyed the experience and the challenge of learning a new language.Highly recommended!
Albin Eck: Gustavo is an incredible teacher capable to pinpoint your difficulties, give you guidance in understanding the mechanics behind them, therefore making you earn a considerable amount of autonomy along with a capacity to self-analyze. His knacks have nothing to do with any rigid grammar lesson you could have seen in academic books. If, as me, you started with books, you will realize how much his witty teaching can adds up to your game. I've been self-taught for years because this way always panned out for me, but Gustavo spirited method did make a considerable difference in a very limited time (2 classes/day during 1 week) and my level of proficiency undoubtedly notched up.Gustavo cunning abilities will drive you straight on the road to progress and self-confidence. He is passionate about his job and you will feel it every minute of your class with him. Flexible with one's schedule and learning capacity, he is also full of individual qualities and good streaks that contribute in making him the great teacher he is.
Les Jensen: I studied at Letra Caribe for 7 weeks. It was a fantastic experience. The teachers at the school were amazing and easy to talk with. The Living Spanish program is an excellent opportunity to see and experience Spanish outside of the classroom. The location of the school is convenient. I recommend Letra Caribe.I studied at Letra Caribe for seven weeks. The teachers are amazing. The location of the school is excellent. The Living Spanish program was an excellent experience. I recommend Letra Caribe.
Martin D: I've had private classes with Gustavo for the past week. It has been an excellent experience.Gustavo met me to assess my level and since then our lessons have been focused on the main areas where I need to improve.I've found the classes to be the perfect mix of targeted learning combined with good fun. I'd definitely recommend Letra Caribe to others.
Natasha Khade: I recommend Letra Caribe 100% for anyone who wants to improve their Spanish regardless of what level they are at. I lived in Cartagena for three months, and when I first got there I did not speak a word of Spanish. I was on the lookout for a Spanish school, and Letra Caribe was highly recommended by a friend who was a local of the city. When I first spoke to Gustavo, he asked that I meet with me first so that he could get a sense of what I wanted to achieve through the Spanish classes. After understanding my reasons for wanting to learn the language, I began to take class with Gustavo for a month. He was able to understand my learning style and would design classes based on how I picked up the material. I cannot remember any class with him being boring. He came up with a number of different activities (e.g. movie night, games) so as to maximize my exposure to the language. Gustavo also connected me to a number of locals with whom I could practice my newly obtained language skills. Gustavo has a way of making his students feel comfortable with the material and provides them with a safe place to practice. Gustavo is a gifted teacher and I am very happy with my decision to study at Letra Caribe.
Daniel Malone: Studying Spanish with Gustavo at Letra Caribe as a complete beginner was genuinely one of the best decision I made - I was speaking from day 1. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn or develop their Spanish.I arrived in Cartagena knowing I wanted to spend the first 2 weeks learning spanish before travelling South America for 5 months, so I searched online, found some Spanish schools, and visited each the day arrived. The first two schools I visited I would describe as generic, both simply handed me a menu with prices, offering group classes and 121 tuition - neither spent any time to question or understand my requirements. Afterwards, I met with Gustavo at Letra Caribe, who invited me to his office and spent 20 minutes with me going through options, finding out more about me, and also offering suggestions for accommodation, homestay and Couchsurfing groups, even before I decided to study with him. This meeting made my decision to study with Gustavo easy: we agreed 4 hours per day 121, starting the next day, with 2 different teachers - 2 hours grammar & vocabulary and 2 hours speaking, with a much needed break in between - all for an extremely reasonable price. Gustavo’s focus on enabling me to communicate and express myself meant by the end of the first week I could speak with locals, sometimes in Spanglish, where I practiced my Spanish and they their English - it was an awesome experience. I also met other students of Gustavo, who had relocated to Cartagena, and noticed they could all speak fluently and with confidence which was great to see. I thought it was great how Gustavo developed strong relationships with his students and encouraged them to me each other in the evening for social activities too. In summary, you won’t regret studying spanish with Gustavo at Letra Caribe, he is a great guy, a patient but challenging teacher and now a good friend.
Cara Bray: We are a couple who had three private lessons with Gustavo. We found these sessions to be really beneficial for the start of our trip in South America. Gustavo was enthusiastic, patient and went out of his way to help us, not only with Spanish but also recommending places and putting us in contact with others. Excellent and enjoyable to learn, would definitely recommend and use again!!
Lonneke: Gustavo is an excellent teacher: patient, intelligent and punctual. His classes are fun and well-structured. He helped me prepare for the DELE C1 exam.
Anna gruszczyńska: I took intensive classes with Gustavo for one week and I made incredible progress. Gustavo boosted my confidence and showed me that I can speak Spanish. Besides that he is a very sweet and interesting person. It was great experience. Thank you!
Saskia Nauenberg Dunkell: Letra Caribe is an amazing place to learn Spanish! My language skills improved in leaps and bounds with Gustavo, and I had lots of fun in the process. This is the best place to quickly become more fluent in Spanish while meeting new friends, learning about Colombia, and having an awesome time in Cartagena. Whether you need help with basic conversations or you want to develop more professional vocabulary, Gustavo tailors his lessons to each student’s needs. He’s dedicated to excellent teaching, and it makes all the difference. 5 stars for his school, I highly recommend it!

Raíces: Spanish & Culture: what do users think?
Eric Saito: I've been working with Raices for over two years (!!!!) now and have enjoyed every bit of it. I've been taking Skype lessons with Orfarit from the beginning and my comfort with the language has improved dramatically. I especially enjoy that I can help guide the lesson to make it applicable to my work and interests. When I visited Cartagena, I studied with Jader. Our lessons together were part Spanish class part historical tour which I loved.
Happiness and LOVE: It's a perfect place to learn the beautiful language Spanish. You not only learn Spanish you also learn about the beautiful city Cartagena. It has a good central location and the teachers are super helpful and friendly! I can highly recommend it! Always again!
Kristen Jensen: I was able to take private lessons with Estefany for a month (4 hours a day) as I was studying to pass a language exam for my university. Estefany and the rest of the Raíces staff are so fun and knowledgeable in their profession! I learned so much about Spanish, Colombia, and Cartagena. Estefany was amazing knowing what would be required and could assess my level really well. I ended up getting a level above what was required of me! Would highly recommend using Raíces for any type of Spanish education, be it casual learning or studying for an important test!
Amy Bryant: I've used Raices for myself and my 9 year old son - on two separate occasions. Their pricing is very reasonable and their instruction exceeded my expectations both times. They creatively worked with my 9 year old to keep him engaged in the language. They are also open to unique experiences outside of the classroom. I highly recommend reaching out to Esperanza or Estefannia! And, Blanca is great with kids as well!
Sarah Vella: I greatly enjoyed my overall language learning experience at Raices. I wanted to find a school where I could increase my speaking and listening fluency, and I did not want the traditional classroom/grammar approach to learning. Their one on one full immersion approach was perfect for me. My teacher Esperanza customized my class experience to what my language needs and interests were. We went to museums, bookstores, cafes, parks and went shopping, all while practicing Spanish. It was a very fun language learning experience, and Cartagena is a very fun place to learn in! I also was invited to go to a concert with the rest of the Raices teachers and students which was a lot of fun! They also found me a homestay where my hosts were very friendly and only spoke Spanish, which I feel really helped my immersion experience. Now that I am back home, I am taking classes on Skype also with Esperanza in order to keep on improving my speaking and listening skills. If you are looking for the full immersion experience I highly recommend Raices!
Silas Bleisch: I lived for six months in Cartagena back in 2018 after my Senior High School Year in Switzerland and took classes at Raíces for several months to improve my Spanish. An extraordinary thing about Raíces is the way they teach. Their personalised classes were tailored to my specific needs and wishes at my convenience. As someone who started at a B2 level I truly appreciated that they knew how to help me eradicate my tiny little mistakes, augment my vocabulary and enhance my oral understanding of the rather rapidly spoken local spanish, the so-called Costeñol. Thanks to my teachers Esperanza and especially Estefany I aced the C1 exam with a 94% score, which would not have been possible without them! However, Raíces is also incredibly competent in teaching beginners as the majority of my fellows were. The teachers do speak English, some very well and the others at least at a conversational level. If this is not sufficient they explain it with "their hands and feet".Furthermore, the slogan "Spanish and culture" reflects its programme, as the teachers are all young and adorable persons who take their students out on a beer after class, show them the city´s most charming spots and organise regular excursions to the villages nearby. I participated in several of them, e.g. we went playing "tejo" in Turbaco or visited a native colombian village near Sincelejo over the weekend, which was one of my personal highlights of my whole stay in Colombia!Another special thing are their weekly spanish soirées in which the teachers and their students meet around 6 locals to practice speaking and to deepen their knowledge about the Spanish language and Colombia by playing cool group games. All this is what distinguishes Raíces from any other language school in Cartagena as the teachers virtually do everything to not only teach you Spanish but beyond that also make you feel welcome and cared about during your stay in their country. I can especially recommend this school to American, German and Swiss (or any european) students, as the school has years of experience about how to make these nationalities feel comfortable.Thank you guys very much I had a blast and see you in Switzerland 2019! :)Su estudiante estrella Sili
Chad Garrett: I've tried to contact this company numerous times both via email and by phone using phone calls and texts. The only response I received was via text telling me they would contact me later. Still waiting and no response. Can't speak to the Spanish lessons offered by this company but can say the initial contact with them to try to arrange classes is terrible. Multiple other companies in the Cartagena were much more responsive. I hope the lessons are offered are better than the customer service.
Katy Keenan: I love Raíces Spanish School!
I worked with Esperanza while I was in Cartagena this summer and we have continued online twice a week since then. She is an excellent teacher, very patient & great at explaining things. We talk about different topics each time which helps build vocabulary and keep the lessons fun while reinforcing grammar and conjugations.I haven’t worked with any of the other teachers but they seem like a very close-knit group and I’m sure they are all just as talented and wonderful to work with.I can’t recommend Raíces enough!
In person or online, your Spanish will improve & you will have lots of fun in the process!
amy kreger: This school is absolutely wonderful. Their learning approach is like no other language school around. It's not a typical classroom setting...you explore the city...everything is completely catered to you and your learning style...and it's not more expensive than the other schools around. I'm was an absolute beginner at learning Spanish before taking lessons at Raíces...I am a slow learner and I was blown away with how much I learnt in my month with Esperanza...The teachers are so caring and dedicated. They help you to keep learning by holding free really fun meet ups with the other students and teachers.I couldnt recommend this school more...it was the best part of my month in Cartagena.
Peter Panier: I took a Spanish course in February and March with Jader for 2 weeks. I can highly recommend this school. Their concept is a bit different then from other schools but amazing. I was every morning for 3 hours with Jader in the city of Cartagena and I learned a lot for that short time. It is a great mix between culture, some activities and of course to learn the language. Raices provide very good study material and they really know how to teach. I met also the other teachers and I can say they are all great. If you want to study Spanish in Colombia, go to RAICES!
Andrea: This school sets itself apart from any other school I've gone too. All the teachers are so warm and welcoming, and the initiative and effort they all put into the school is incredible. These are locals who really loves what they do, and works hard to offer a good product. Unlike other schools I've experienced who feels more like a money-machine who doesn't really care about YOU. I'm so impressed by them all. But especially I love the time I spent with my professor Estefany. She made me feel safe when attempting to speak, she tailored the classes to my level and my needs, and we had a lot of fun while learning. All classes were accompanied by a lot of laughter and usually a pastry or two. I love the combination the school offer of teaching you Spanish, but also about the Colombian culture. I went to classes with Estefany for about a month, and my Spanish has improved a lot!
Ruben Cantello: Love this school! all teachers are very friendly, and always giving you a big smile. What i like the most is how they give the class, very dynamic, so students can improve fast Spanish, and be able to talk with locals. Also is not just about learning the language, is also to learn the culture! they have a great Cartagenero heart, so as they like to teach they like to show the city, taking you to different events that's going on around. i definitely recommend this school, and i'm sure if you take class with them, you will end it up loving the language, and Cartagena as well.
Liam Bryce: A great place to learn spanish!
Sabrina Franz: I was surprised to see how my Spanish improved. Honestly I didn't had good experiences in other schools but the guys made me feel welcome :)
Katya Savenkova: Great school, teachers are the best!
