Coffee and...: what do users think?
Vova Datsenko: Amazing place where you can buy unique coffee and chocolate. Highly recommend this place
Horst Fyrguth: I Love dark chocolate and have tried many of them all around the world. The one they recommended ist simply amazing.Great place where you feel right at Home .They we're so helpful and friendly!
Alexandra Dékány: Great selection of different Colombian coffees, chocolate bars and lovely souvenirs.
Sarah C: The shop was so cute! The staff and owner were super friendly. We bought some very lovely souvenirs and bags of coffee to bring home with us. Highly recommend if you are looking to bring back some Colombian coffee!
Jolanda Gibat: Mein liebstes Geschäft in Cartagena.
Rahya Sharifi: A lovely, locally owned shop with a great selection of coffee, chocolate, and other souvenirs to bring home. The owner, Luis, is very kind, knowledgeable, and passionate. We had a great time chatting and getting to know about his products, and he makes the stressful experience of buying souvenirs for friends and family so very enjoyable. Please check it out if you’re in the area!
Joëll: The owner is a very nice gentleman who is thoroughly involved in the production of his coffee and has some knowledge to share about this and he has some excellent local rum as well!
Sally Choi: This is easily my favorite shop in Cartagena. The store is articulately curated with products that Luis is very passionate about. I had a great time chatting with him, he makes the atmosphere very homie. I feel lucky to have stumbled upon this shop! I bought the cutest mirror (Peruvian) that I was scared I’d break while traveling back to the States, but brought it back safely (and now it’s on my wall)! Luis helped to thoroughly bubble wrap it. Bought other chocolate and cacao products too that I loved when I sampled them. Happy about every minute and penny I spent at this store.
Nathaniel: Hands on, friendly owner with a select group of organic products from throughout Colombia, great for souvenirs to bring home and supportive of small local family run businesses. We really appreciated the comprehensive information, advice and help in picking out really unique gifts including chocolate covered cocoa beans, yummy.
Adnan Khan: Great shop as indicated by all the other review already. Fantastic quality of chocolate that we bought for gifts to take back home. Luis was extremely helpful and friendly.
omar lopez: Great place to buy coffee and chocolate. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
David Schaub-Jones: Great shop selling coffee, chocolate and other souvenirs. Friendly Colombian owner speaks fluent English and colleague French. Good range of interesting products, can also taste ....
Sam Kay: Appropriately named.... walked in for a quick cup of coffee and ended up chatting for an hour or two with Louis, the owner. Not actually a cafe, just a coffee shop. But we did get a cup of very good coffee (and a few bags of beans too).
Peter Tan: Don't ever post reviews but Luis the store owner was extremely friendly, helpful, and kind. Luis has been in business for over 25 years. He knew each product on the shelves, where they're sourced, sometimes even the individual farmers who made them by hand. He selects products from small farms so I don't believe there were any products from a commercial farm so it's nice to know that you are supporting small farmers. The products themselves were very reasonably priced. Highly recommend to stop here to make some purchases to being excellent coffee and chocolates back home.
Justin M: Nice selection of Colombian chocolates and coffees, some of which I could not find anywhere else in the city. The owner Luis is very kind, helpful and passionate about his products. He knows a lot about the different chocolate and coffee farms and their history.
Mario Linares: For people who are into specialty coffee like single origin from various farms in Colombia this place sells it. It’s probably the only highlight of this store. Hence the rating
Tommy Caouette: This place is pure magic ! The owner, Luis, presented all his product -coffee, chocolate, and more- with an incredible description and with great knowledge. It's a place you must realy go not only for the coffee but also for the experience and the warmth of the place ! Note that Luis speaks a perfect english :)
Chad Tennant: Terrific selection of coffee, chocolate, gifts, and souvenirs at affordable prices. The owner is knowledgeable and speaks English, which is a bonus. I'll visit again.
Mo Spooneybarger: Really interesting selection of chocolate and a knowledgeable and friendly owner who gave us samples and explained all the different kinds for us. Great experience!

Fe Breer: The place is beautifully decorated and makes the appearance of a great place to have a coffee or two. They also say in the menu that they include some of their cake or cookies with every hot coffee, which is an interesting concept that could justify the high price of the drinks. However...they didn't bring any of that with the coffee by themselves. And when we asked for it, the waitress wasn't sure if they were even doing it anymore - and eventually brought us some dry salty cookies that did not go well with the coffee. The cappuccino itself was decent, but not a revelation. All in all, our visit was unfortunately a disappointment.
AT 2022: Unfortunately we got scammed here. Usually when you order coffee in a Chemex it’s for two people and at least (!) two cups. Here you only get one cup but pay 5€ for it which is an insane price for Cartagena. Also we asked if it’s possible to order a chocolate drink without cake since in the menu there was only a combo option available. Turned out that it’s the same price when you order it with or without cake which they didn’t tell us. The coffee was ok though but a bit tasteless and definitely not worth 5€ when you can get it everywhere for half the price or less. Unfortunately this was our worst experience in Cartagena so we would not recommend going here unless you want overpriced coffee/ chocolate and bad service

Yannick Lemay: Best expresso martini in town!
Aaron Kody: Authentic & really cool Colombian coffeeshop
Nuria Gonzalez: The carrot cake and the Caribbean coffee are delicious. Wide variety of coffee, in addition to a very good atmosphere.

Natalia Marino: Entering the premises and breathing that spectacular aroma moved me to a perfect place to have a snack/breakfast. The attention was super good, in a timely manner. Not only did I eat on the spot, but I also bought products to take away, they do everything with coffee! Highly recommended, and the waiters are very well trained. The person who helped me explained the entire coffee process, advised me whether to bring coffee beans or ground depending on the type of coffee maker I had, and was very kind in everything. There are a variety of tables and the possibility of choosing chairs or armchairs. The place is elevated by 3 steps, I'm not sure if they have a ramp, but it's worth going through and learning about their products. In addition, the location is perfect within the route of the Walled City. Thanks for the experience!
Sttefany Aparicio: A totally Colombian experience, the coffee was good,The location of the place is super central, but the establishment does not have air conditioning, which makes it a bit noisy and hotReasonable prices for tourists
Alessandro Uribe: Incredible cafe - one of the best in Cartagena I'd say. Unique coffee options, if you love fizzy coffee this place is for you! Or if you want to try real Colombian coffee by a Colombian company (not Starbucks). Upscale and worker friendly, so bring a laptop and use their great wifi if you need to get work done!Food: 5/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More

Ronald Opazo Cerpa: Very good service, but if you want to have a coffee ☕ there is no :(
Hector R: It is incredible to spend the afternoon. The besides are rich and the food I recommend
Diana Carolina Suarez Ruiz: A spectacular place with an incredible view, it is recommended to arrive before sunset so as not to miss that spectacle. The food and the delicious cocktails, the only thing they have to improve is the attention since it takes a long time, but it is understandable given the number of people who visit the place.
Betty Rincon: Atmosphere: 5/5More
Aurimar Duran: Lousy lousy lousy attention! The worst service I received in Cartagena, it hurts that a place with such a beautiful view has such attention. We asked for a song to sing birthdays and they didn't allow it because they only listen to electronic music, we were a group of more than 15 adult people to celebrate the birthday of a 60-year-old person. The hostess did not want to allow us to enter because they already wanted to close the premises and their closing time was in 3 hours!I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL!It goes without saying that I would never return to this place...I would like to add that I do not recommend any dish, much less the beer that was super hot!
Andrea Paulina Márquez Escalante: The attention and service is TERRIBLE! I hope the owner reads this and realizes what they are doing with their beautiful business. They did not want to accept us at 11 because they were already picking up and the hours are until 2am. We were a group of 20 people. When we were leaving they applauded us because they wanted to leave. Awful. 0 points on everything.
Aquiles Rodríguez: A beautiful space but its extremely rude workers, not only do they not want to attend to you but they show it to you, surely the owner has no idea how badly they serve. The most expensive beer in Cartagena and hot! Unfortunately I do not recommend it and I will never return
Rony Campuzano: Excellent place to watch the sunset

Lady Bello: The reason why I’m putting 5 stars is because the food is sooo delicious yum yum and where the restaurant is located the is amazing. The bad part is the communication in that restaurant. If you go on google maps search up the restaurant and try to call that restaurant the number bad it doesn’t go through. I tried sooo many times I had to go to another restaurant and ask for help. That restaurant needs to adjust the number as to why they haven’t is a mystery. Once I was able to successfully make the reservations a few hours later I called to make sure my reservations was ok and then I called again the second day just make sure, call me crazy I just like to make sure everything was okay. As soon as I got there they didn’t see my reservations 🤯!!! I had to get loud and rude to the put that they called in the manager and I told the manager this is a mess on how you handle the reservations. Yeah you can also do the reservations online but I believe in doing things myself and or in person. The manager let me in because I gave him all proof that I tried calling to make a reservation and everything. We sat the table that we picked. WE WAITED FOR AN HOUR for our server to come to us. Another serve saw us tried to help and she noticed that our actual serve never came up to us. She decided to help I was soo angry on how the manager miss manages his personal. The server who help us was soo sweet to us. I left her a tip and she said that there’s a new law in Colombia that because the restaurants are paying the servers well the customers aren’t allowed to tip us. I believe alll restaurantes should follow this example.
Paul Torres2: Food: 5/5|Service: 1/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Shrimp Ceviche and a MojitoMore
thalia vargas: The food is delicious, although there is little variety on the menu and the dishes always arrive cold, but since each delivery takes so long, it is preferable to leave it that way, the service is good but very slow. The beautiful place to watch the sunset and a very pleasant atmosphere.
Jose Mejia: Great food and excellent viewFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Causa de Pulpo …More
Jason Labadie: Amazing sunset!Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
sergio sayas: The place is expensive and they don't sell very good things, it's more than all name. Just fall in love with the view and that's it
Eduardo Garcia: Well I was expecting more but, this place is just location. The location is really nice, it feels perfect, but the food and the drinks were ahh ok. The cocktails are strong really really strong maybe good for some people but they taste like shoots not like cocktails. We order an octopus the octopus was ok but the potetos were no cook. Also one of the cocktails taste like reallly bad we did not know if it was the piratas del caribe or de one from the house the server did not know which one was. Overall just one time experience.

Centro Catalina Spanish School: what do users think?
Nicole Chacon: Centro Catalina is a place where everything is done with passion and love. The team strives to give their best every day. Not only Spanish is taught, Colombian culture is also lived with many activities to guarantee an authentic experience beyond conventional tourism. Learning Spanish in cultural immersion guarantees rapid learning of the language. Colombian Spanish is considered by many to be the best to learn. The cities of Medellín and Cartagena are charming and allow an experience in very diverse contexts and regions, between the Caribbean and the Andes.
Camilo Ramirez: Great school, I learned a lot from you. I hope I can come back soon
Valérie Roy: Thanks for everything! cool experience
Lukas Niemeier: Great school. Perfectly organized with very skilled teachers, good equipment and a lot of fun during classes. I went for 30h/week for two weeks. One in Medellin and one in Cartagena. The Different knowledge levels of the students were taken into account and the groups built fit well together. Thanks again for a great time!
Gaby Sierra: Excellent!
Laura Liszewski: Really nice experience in this school, recommend!
Tom Lovett: I cannot recommend this school enough. I am absolutely amazed that. I'm able to have spontaneous conversations with locals about a host of topics, considering I only did four weeks of classes, starting from zero. I was worried that doing well in classes wouldn't carry over to the real world, but that has not been the case at all.The classes themselves were really enjoyable. My teachers were great, the other students were great. We cracked plenty of jokes while still learning new grammar and vocabulary. The school was very helpful when it came to logistics as well. I literally enrolled on a Friday afternoon for Monday morning classes. Also, the school allowed me to print documents and received a package for me.Cannot recommend this school highly enough.
Laura Shadley: Had a wonderful experience at Centro Catalina - Cartagena. The instructors and staff were outgoing and helpful. School always flew by because it was so much fun. I was nervous to speak with people in Spanish, but I gained a lot of confidence while I was there! The school organized a lot of fun activities that allowed you to experience more of the city. They also organized a trip to Isla Grande on the weekend, which was incredible! I stayed with an awesome host family very close to the school. I can't say enough good things!
Dario Paolillo Mendoza: Super escuela, Muchas gracias, thanks a lot for the great time! The support, activities, treatment and personal are fantastic. Colombia and the School has stolen my heart and they are like a second home and like a Family. May God always bless you in Name of Jesus! Bendiciones mi gente bella
Jim C.: I had a great time a Centro Catalina. The school is located in the historic center of Cartagena, with lots of restaurants, shops and sights in a short walking distance.Teachers and staff are just awesome and made my stay a unique and special experience. Everybody is super friendly and helpful. All in all a great experience, defenitely a school that I can recommend.
lisa muzzin: This is a great place to learn or improve your Spanish. Not only are the teachers and classes of top quality but there are free events most days as well. This helps you to get to know other students and the city and to practice your spanish even more. I really enjoyed my time here. Thanks everyone!
Max N: Great Experience
Loris Contro: I spent 6 FUNtastic weeks learning Spanish and everything I could about the Colombian heritage and culture at Centro Catalina, and would have spent a lot more than that if I had had more time. The teachers, facilities, customer service, extra activities and anybody who works in there with great passion: everything was excellent! I attended both schools in Medellin and Cartagena, and I strongly recommend them.
Thomas Augsten: School was great fun, wonderful staff, and evening as well as weekend activities are organized. Stayed for a 1-week elementary course and would come back. Also limited number of affordable rental rooms available in a safe neighborhood.
HAMOOD AL TOQI: Great school great stuff the best experience to learn Spanish highly recommend
Caleb Solofra: Great school! Classes allowed me to dig deep into not only the language but also the culture of Medellín. I have traveled a lot, and this school is the most friendly and made me most comfortable. Here’s a list of other great things:-provided a fantastic host family-top notch classes-good location in Medellín (lots to do)-optional evening activity provided each day (like a movie, salsa classes, etc)-clean facility
Brian Eaten: Perfect Spanish school for a perfect experience. S/o to David
Danny Lee: I truly can recommend centro catalina for every person who wants to learn spanish - doesnt matter which level you have! The facilities, the staff, the teachers and the way they teach are top notch! Every day they have an activity for the afternoon and also for the weekends, like salsa class, movies, city- or graffiti-tours, etc. Also the school is in the middle of centeo historico and so you can find many restaurants, bars and shops just next to it! On this point i want to say MUCHAS GRACIAS to all of the staff, especially to David, who is an amazing "papi"!! All of you, keep going the way you do!! Mucho gusto.. jackie! ;)

Spanish World Institute - Spanish School: what do users think?
Hans-Jakob Schäfer: Very nice school, good teachers, small classes and afternoon activities with locals. Also helped me with organizing my further holidays and other things like local SIM card and vaccination. You don’t do a mistake when choosing this school.
Almar Vergunst: I had a really great time at spanish world institute. A great place to learn spanish with good teachers. I had two week of private lessons over here with two different teachers. Both teachers (Andrés and Nahomy) were really friendly and skilled in the things they doing. Thanks Andrés and Nahomy for this good time and the things you learned me! I will definitly come back to learn more.
Jay D'Alba: The Spanish World Institute. When you first enter you are greeted by the friends you have known forever, but you are meeting for the first time. They are your instructors who will lead you on a voyage into a culture like no other. This is the essence of the Spanish World Institute - here learning is fun!Having learning experiences in numerous countries, I can say without hesitation that The Spanish World Institute is the best!
Selina Wiggins: I enjoyed studying there and learned a lot. Also the activities outside the classroom were really nice. The teachers are friendly and Ana, who was my teacher, did a great job. A negative aspect in my opinion is that you don‘t get a skript with the rules, grammar etc. but only single sheets about the topic that you discuss in class.
Blair Healy: The Spanish school was fantastic. Highly recommended, Maria and her staff create a safe, comfortable environment in which to learn and practice the language, but will make sure to tailor your learning experience to the pace best suited to you.
Eglenis Garcia: Good school
Laurin Rienhardt: I spend 6 weeks at the Spanish world institute to really become fluent in Spanish and I am more than happy about my time here. Right from the beginning the teachers took really good care of me and adapted the classes to my level. Furthermore without having booked it, I had one to one tuition the entire time, which really helped a lot with my personal progress. I could always ask questions and would get helpful replies. Everybody is extremely friendly and also all the teachers speak English well, so it's not a problem, if your Spanish is a little lacking in the beginning. The location is great, cartagena is a beautiful city to spend some time and the teachers will be sure give you recommendations on what to do and even organize stuff for you. Very glad to have been here.
Steffen W: Muchas gracias a Ane y Ani! I had only one week, but still learned a lot. If possible, I will come back and continue my lessons. The two are the best Spanish teachers, so enthusiastic and truly seem to enjoy teaching spanish and also their culture.
Jessica Castro: Great school, it offers oportunity to practice spanish in a real context. Located in rhe trendy neighboorhood (getsemani)
Alec Altonen: I went to Spanish World Institute for one week. The professors are awesome and interactive. Come into this school at any spanish experience level. The school is easy to find and in a great location in town. Defintely worth it.
Ingebjørg Rygnestad: I studied at SWI in Cartagena for 3months in 2017, and after the first two weeks I noticed that things weren't exactly clean or the way it was supposed to be. A rude and exploiting manager is to blame for this. My main teacher was excellent in her job and the reason why I learned Spanish so good, but if the manager was to decide I would most likely have failed my exam in the end. The manager refused me to switch teacher, she put me in a lower level group of student to save money, even though there were teachers available. She was the one deciding my curriculum even though my teacher, who in fact is educated in the field and she not, wanted to do it otherwise which slowed down my progress. These are factors which has influenced my classes, but why I really can not recommend this place is because I know how she treats her staff. They get almost daily treatenings that if they don't do this and that they will be fired, she holds back the monthly payment and also forces her staff to pay for the extra expenses for the air-condition (which was higher due to a higher number of students). I have many more examples just as ridiculous as this one. And when 4 out of 6 staffmembers have been fired since I was there, it should go off some alarm bells when you choose your school. PS: Just a last funny story. The manager refused me to have classes with one of my teachers because she though that I would end up pregnant...what more can I say? Best wishes for my X-teachers
Christian Wörz: I studied here for almost 3 weeks and could really improve my Spanish! I was the only student in my group so I had like private classes with Victoria. The classes were really fun and well structured. It was a well balanced mix between grammar, exercises and conversation including some listening comprehension. Thank you very much Victoria! I did not give 5 stars because I would have preferred to meet more students there and to have more activities (like every afternoon). I think the school needs to invest more money in online marketing to attract more younger students from abroad. Besides the school is very beautiful and perfectly located in Getsemani!
Katie Johnson: I took a week of intensive classes before traveling across South America for the summer. It was a good way to get to know the language and to be able to practice speaking and listening. I thought the lessons were well rounded. I learned about grammar but was still about to practice speaking and listening and learn about Colombian culture. I was the only student in my class so I was able to receive extra attention. I would recommend SWI to anyone visiting Cartagena.
Carly Ellis: I really enjoyed learning at this school. Tania was a very nice teacher and helped me learn basic Spanish. I felt comfortable to ask questions and have come away with more knowledge than before. I would recommend to anyone :)
Stewart Martin: I think that SWI is one of the better schools in Cartagena. They generally have small class sizes (I was 1 on 1) which means that there is more attention for each student. I went to the school in Bogotá at the start of my time in Colombia and was able to continue from the same ciriculum when I arrived later in Cartagena. Having a school in both of these places is ideal for travellers looking to improve their spanish as they travel.
Lemoine Joachim: Very good school and the teachers are very friendly!
Alison Cortes: I took classes at Spanish World Institute in Cartagena for two weeks after taking classes at another school in El Centro. I preferred Spanish World Institute because I received personal attention and care from the teachers and administrators and felt like I was part of a family. The classes were very comprehensive and the focus was on what I wanted to work on, as opposed to a strict curriculum. The teachers took us on several excursions around the city and also arranged a Salsa class for all of the students, after which I ended up taking private lessons with the teacher at the school. The school is located in a beautiful part of Getsemani, close to Plaza de Trinidad. I recommend Spanish World Institute to anyone who is considering taking Spanish classes in Cartagena.
Caroline Gerber: I am studying spanish in this spanish school for two weeks and it is a very good experience.first there is a test you have to do and then your individual program will be prepared. that is very eficent. i like to learn in this school, because the teacher are very friendly and profesional. i am also teacher and am satisfied with spanish world insitute in cartagena. i would recommend to come here and learn spanish.
