I'm able to have spontaneous conversations with locals about a host of topics, considering I only did four weeks of classes, starting from zero. I was worried that doing well in classes wouldn't carry over to the real world, but that has not been the case at all.The classes themselves were really enjoyable. My teachers were great, the other students were great. We cracked plenty of jokes while still learning new grammar and vocabulary.The school was very helpful when it came to logistics as well. I literally enrolled on a Friday afternoon for Monday morning classes. Also, the school allowed me to print documents and received a package for me.Cannot recommend this school highly enough.

The facilities, the staff, the teachers and the way they teach are top notch! Cees Crumb: I spent three weeks here, (one of them I stayed with a family) and have really enjoyed myself. Teachers and facilities that you would expect from a German accredited school. Staying with a family just added another dimension to the experience. They match you with a family that suits.The lessons were well structured and I enjoyed learning with my 3 other classmates. The staff is nice, the teachers are professionals, the activites very cool and always on time. I also had private dance lessons with Francis (una chica 😉 very kind).Something very nice is the air conditioning in the school because it can get really hot depending the time of the year.I decided to stay with a host family chosen by the school and it was clean and confortable and they were very nice.The localisation is perfect. 10 minutes walk and you're in the neighborhood of Getsemani with its magical atmosphere with bars and restaurants.So if you want to improve your spanish and live a cultural experience meeting other students from different countries, I recommend this school without hesitation.Steve, 52 from Canada.

Lucy Golding: I would highly recommend Ecos as your choice of school. The teachers are excellent and they take the time to make sure you fully understand what is being taught. There are free activities 3 times a week where you can learn more Spanish, find out about the local culture, and interact with other students. At the end of each week you have an interactive session with the other students, in which you play games to improve your vocabulary. If I ever come back to Cartagena I would definitely return to Ecos.

Christoph Körner: Die Sprachschule befindet sich im Zentrum von Cartagena. Nah an der Altstadt und neben Getsemani. Die Lehrer sind alle sehr motiviert und man lernt in kurzer Zeit sehr schnell. Vorab gibt es einen Test, um das eigene Level festzustellen. Vormittags sind dann gemeinsame Stunden mit bis zu 4 anderen Schülern. Am Nachmittag wenn gewünscht dann Einzelunterricht. Super saubere Räumlichkeiten, tolle Aktivitäten 3x wöchentlich am Nachmittag und super Mitarbeiter. Klare Empfehlung an alle, die spanisch lernen wollen.

Ayako Dumont: Je suis actuellement en voyage de 6 mois en Amérique du sud et je souhaitais prendre une semaine de cours d'espagnol pour avoir quelques bases car je n'ai jamais appris auparavant. ECOS m'a donné quelques bases pour pouvoir ensuite apprendre plus sur le terrain.Les professeurs et les cours étaient top. Cependant je recommande ce programme plus pour ceux qui veulent apprendre l'espagnol avec un bonne base grammaticale et pas forcément pour être opérationnel rapidement.Merci à vous pour cette super semaine. Ju: Tolle Sprachschule! Es ist eine kleine und sehr familiäre Schule mit guten und motivierten Lehrern. Zu Beginn wird ein Einstufungstest gemacht und dann werde entsprechende Gruppen gebildet. Besonders gut haben mir die kulturellen Aktivitäten wie Bachata Kurs und Kochstunde gefallen. Freitags gab es für alle Schüler eine gemeinsame Stunde, die viel Spaß gemacht hat. Für deutsche Arbeitnehmer vielleicht noch interessant: die Schule wird für Bildungsurlaub anerkannt. Ich kann sie sehr empfehlen und komme bestimmt wieder!!

The location of school- right in the center of beautiful Cartagena - is amazing - it's close to the historic district and a ten minute walk or less from Getsamini district. All the staff is super friendly and very professional. The enrollment process and language placement interview on line was simple and easy and the rates are very competitive. The placement interview ensures that you are placed with other students at your level. I had signed up for group lessons - and I was very pleased that there was only one other student in my class and we were well matched. Idrina, our teacher was very professional and organized. Idrina made the classes interesting and tailored the classes to our specific needs. My second week I took individual classes with Angelica who is also very professional , fun and engaging and she really helped me build on what we had covered in the first week. I was impressed at the amount of activities that the school offers. And Rosa the activities coordinator, is an absolute gem. She is patient, professional and is always there with a reassuring smile :) Free organized tours included a bike ride in town, walking tour, fruit tasting and welcome lunch just to name a few. Rosa helped with the advising tours to the islands and elsewhere and led many of the free activities.. Liega the School manager makes sure everything in the school runs smoothly and organized. I had a great two weeks, taking lessons, going on activities and meeting other students - If you want to take Spanish in Cartagena - this is definitely the school to do it!

Ngoc Lan Tran: I took a 3 week beginner course which I enjoyed very much! It’s was just me and another person for the first two weeks and in the third week one person joined our class as well. My teacher, Isabel, was very friendly and patient. She taught us Spanish in a fun and easy-to-follow way. She also encouraged us to speak as much as possible in Spanish. I also got to learn a lot about Colombian traditions, history, politics music etc. The rest of the staff was helpful and friendly. I would definitely come back here to learn more!!

Our teacher (Indrina) is very nice, explains things very clearly, is patient and speaks with a proper speed. Not too fast so we could understand her well but also not too slow (so we would feel totally stupid :D). I can definitely recommend the course for anyone who would like to learn Spanish from scratch.Apart from the lessons the school offers nice activities.. Some free and some paid so there's definitely something suitable for everyone!

Generally speaking very small class sizes (i.e. 2 - 4 people) at B1 and above though classes are (consistent with other places) bigger at the beginner levels. My teacher was David; he was very knowledgeable and had an engaging style of teaching - in particular, he had a knack for choosing interesting discussion topics, slightly off the beaten track. Importantly, he struck the right balance between encouraging confidence in expression and correcting errors.

I was also impressed that there were many classes available for learners of varying levels of Spanish. I was only there for a week but my Spanish improved dramatically in that time. My teacher Angélica was amazing. Very professional and patient. Went above and beyond to help me understand, even following up with me after class following an absence to make sure I was ok with the subject matter. She also helped me to find additional study resources to help me with some particular questions I had that were outside the course material.Toucan also goes above and beyond in organising events for students so it was easy and fast to make a lot of friends quickly, and to enjoy Cartagena — all the time learning more Spanish. My teacher Angelica was during all those 4 weeks very patient with me and did not once gave herself a break from correcting the mistakes I made in Spanish. Allison Burket: I had a great one week group class at Toucan Cartagena. I highly recommend Toucan for those who want to advance their Spanish while on vacay. Toucan clearly has a well developed curriculum that is also flexible enough to incorporate people of all different levels and all different travel schedules. I was in a class with one other person, and our teacher Alba helped us break into two different past tenses and to master the basics in a week. She was also tons of fun and we had a great time in every class.Cartagena is also a great location for activities. Rosa did a great job setting things up for the students - dance class, rum tasting, sunset cruise, wildlife tour, a weekend island paradise trip, and more! Ligia was also super helpful in helping me make transportation arrangements, and everyone at the school was wonderful with recommending other nightlife or weekend activities.Only downside is the space is a little tight so it’s tough to hang out in the school itself outside class but I still was able to meet a ton of great people to hang out with outside of class.

With our teacher Angelica (that I will miss), we are improving our conversation skills in Spanish and also learning a lot about the Colombian culture. She is young and open minded, which means that we can speak and ask any question about Colombia. She is funny and the time flies!The school is small which allows you to meet people easily. The class are small also (we are 2 in mine) and it’s very very convenient to learn.The activities are great and at a fair price. You won’t need to do all the tour office to find the good one. If you have other requests, the staff will help you out. They book for us transportation to the national park for exemple.I definitely don’t regret my choice and it’s a good way to meet people, discover Cartagena and learn Spanish.Thank you !

The school is small, which makes the contact between teachers and students very easy and personal. Also I am only with one other person in a class, which makes it almost private lessons! I was very happy to hear that Luz would be my teacher again this week as she is very kind, clever, patient and fun. Her explanations are fully clear, I feel free to ask any question I have and she tells a lot of interesting stuff about the Colombian culture.
