Sandra: This place was quite a surprise. Firstly, my family and I walked into Carmen hoping to snatch a table for an early dinner. Well, with no reservation that plan backfired.Thankfully, the staff suggested Moshi. Moshi serves Japanese cuisine, and is nestled inside Carmen. I ordered the tasting menu w/cocktails and it was an amazing meal. This review was long over due, one year to be exact, and I can’t recall all of the dishes. However, if you’re a foodie and appreciate small surprises in every dish, then I recommend the tasting menu.

Kaili Barnes: I came to Nueva Lengua to learn medical Spanish for my future care. I have only been here for 4 days and my Spanish has gotten so much better! The way they teach her is so incredible! The teachers a very supportive and you can tell they love their jobs! Everyone I have met here has said that this is one of the top programs in the world and I definitely think that is true. This program brings in so many people from so many different countries and it’s so wonderful to be around them all. My first week I have Gaby and Mayra as my teachers and they a wonderful!! Loes de Smet: My boyfriend and I followed the intense Spanish course for two weeks at the start of our trip to Colombia. The experience was amazing! The communication with the office went smoothely and the activities after school are fun and a great way to practice your Spanish. Our teachers (Mayra and Carolina) were really professional and you can see they have a passion for teaching and the Spanish language. ian paul: The school is a great place to enrol. The teachers are helpful, friendly and assist you regardless of what level of Spanish you have. It’s a great place to mix with like minded travellers so it doesn’t matter if you enrol by yourself or with a travelling buddy as there are daily activities for you to interact with fellow travellers if you choose to. I was fortunate to have Kevin, Mayra, Carolina and Paola as my main teachers but also had the pleasure of having Eli the dance teacher who is packed full of energy to help me going from having 2 left feet to pulling of salsa, merengue and bachata dance routines. Meine Gastfamilie wohnt im Stadtteil Manga in 15 Minuten Fußweg von der Schule entfernt. Mir haben die beiden Wochen Unterricht sehr viel gebracht. Wir haben viel Theorie gelernt und wiederholend geübt. Dabei wurde ausschließlich Spanisch gesprochen. Die beiden Lehrerinnen Mayra und Ana haben den Unterricht sehr gut gestaltet und uns sehr viel Geduld entgegengebracht. Es war eine angenehme Atmosphäre in der Klasse. Die Gruppengröße war mit 4-5 Leuten perfekt als Intensivkurs. Das Unterrichtsmaterial war auch sehr übersichtlich. Nachmittags wurden viele verschiedene kostenlose Aktivitäten von der Schule angeboten, z.B. Kochkurse, Ausflüge in der Stadt (Burg, Museum), Kajakausflüge am Strand und in die Mangroven. Die Unterrichtszeiten von 9-13 Uhr haben sehr gut gepasst um den Nachmittag noch zu nutzen. Ich habe zusätzlich zum Spanischkurs noch einen Tanzkurs gemacht. Wir hatten sehr viel Spaß und ich habe in die Salsa, Bachata und Merengue gelernt. Muchas gracias!

Nico Le: Ich habe insgesamt zwei Wochen lang die Sprachschule Nueva Lengua in Cartagena besucht und war so begeistert, dass ich nach einer Woche verlängert habe. Die Schule befindet sich direkt im zentralen, coolen Stadtteil Getsemani. Ich wohnte bei einer kolumbianischen Familie 20 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt. Der Unterricht fand von 9-13 Uhr statt, es wurde nur spanisch gesprochen.In der Schule wurde ein leckeres preisgünstiges Mittagessen angeboten, Getränke waren frei.Selbst Lehrerin, war ich von den modernen Lehrmethoden und der Vielfalt der Aufgaben angenehm überrascht. Der Unterricht wurde professionell vorbereitet, war gut strukturiert und dem Niveau der Gruppe angepasst. Die Lehrkräfte sind sehr gut ausgebildet, motiviert und freundlich. Ich habe die Grammatik gut verstanden und große Fortschritte im Lesen, Schreiben und Verstehen von spanischen Texten gemacht. Jeden Nachmittag wurden zusätzlich kostenlose Gruppenaktivitäten angeboten, z.B. Koch- und Tanzkurse oder Ausflüge in die nähere Umgebung.Ich habe eine tolle Zeit in Cartagena verbracht, das karibische Urlaubsfeeling sehr genossen und kann diese Sprachschule uneingeschränkt empfehlen.

Tom Lovett: I cannot recommend this school enough. I am absolutely amazed that. I'm able to have spontaneous conversations with locals about a host of topics, considering I only did four weeks of classes, starting from zero. I was worried that doing well in classes wouldn't carry over to the real world, but that has not been the case at all.The classes themselves were really enjoyable. My teachers were great, the other students were great. We cracked plenty of jokes while still learning new grammar and vocabulary.The school was very helpful when it came to logistics as well. I literally enrolled on a Friday afternoon for Monday morning classes. Also, the school allowed me to print documents and received a package for me.Cannot recommend this school highly enough.

Maelys Rivera: Idk where to start, it’s 2:16 and I haven’t even checked into my hotel room and I am already horrified. I am not a picky person.when we first walked in, there was no ac and the lobby smelled like urine. No ac? No problem. My family is from Cuba I’ve stayed at hotels without ac and I can deal. Although that can be a huge discomfort for alot of people since it can reach temperatures of 95 degrees. Especially when nothing seems clean and the place reeks. the infrastructure is scary, the smell is already alarming, and there is almost no lighting in the lobby bathroom or anywhere. Jenny Smith: Hotel Casa Lola was the perfect place to kick off our extended honeymoon getaway in Cartagena. A cross between old steam punk, colonial, and Eastern decor with beautiful water streams throughout the incredible labyrinth of the hotel - there was so much to look at and take in at every corner! We thoroughly enjoyed our daily delicious breakfast full of amazing/unique local fruit (+ more), top notch coffee (according to my coffee connoisseur husband) and friendly service - all included with the room, which is the best if you are a budget conscious traveler like myself. :-) The split level rooms with the bed up on the second floor and mirrors all over also made for a one-of-a-kind experience. A major highlight was the rooftop deck with the most incredible views of the city and interesting nooks and crannies galore - it was so quiet up there whenever we made our way on the roof, and we always wondered why more guests/people weren't around enjoying lounging in this hidden gem of a spot!Staying in the heart of Getsemani (a block or so away from the famous Cafe Havana, where we enjoyed a night out of live music and salsa dancing) was such a treat, and the staff were extremely helpful with coordinating drivers from the airport and down to our self-coordinated trip to the Aviary one morning. And of course the neighborhood is a full cultural/art immersion experience - the colors and energy of the nights are one-of-a-kind!

Location is THE best if you want to be knee deep in culture, close proximity to events, clubs, restaurants and all water tours. We had a blast! Last night here and we miss it already.Rooms: Unique decor, zen. If you enjoy nature, pick thid hotel.Nearby activities: Clubs. Tours. Plaza de la trinidad. The mall. The wall. The museums. Close to it all.Safety: Youtube reviews said Cartagena is dangerous. We did not sew nor feel that at all here.

P Dora: This hotel has lots of potential but unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired with room for improvement.The hotel is decorated beautifully. The location is fine. Our room (4) was quiet. The rooftop is a well curated space. Breakfast was also plentiful and of a good quality - the staff serving breakfast were polite, as were the cleaning staff we encountered.My main issues with the hotel were as follows:• Some of the staff presented as unhappy throughout, in particular those facilitating check in and check out. As the first and last impression of the hotel it would not hurt to expend a bit of energy on a smile.• On our second day we spent roughly 4 hours on the rooftop pool during the day. Unfortunately, there were no staff present on the rooftop to take requests for drinks and food. There was no information on the bar indicating opening hours of the hotel bar. There was a sign that said to call down to make requests but this appeared to only indicate an extension number, not a full number. The hotel website indicates there is an app in which you can make requests but this did not appear to be working. Eventually we left the pool area and hotel to grab drinks and food elsewhere.• The hotel website and information leaflets make reference to happy hour every day of the week. However when we witnessed another customer ask about this he was informed that happy hour only happens Wednesday to Friday. It is unprofessional for happy hour to be marketed in this way if the hotel is not providing such an offer. This false advertisement led to us observing a rather uncomfortable exchange between the customer and the member of the staff on our first night. The member of staff remained polite throughout the exchange but a quality hotel would acknowledge their own mistake and offer the customer a one time discretionary happy hour offer. It is poor form of the hotel to put the member of staff in this position.• WIFI was hit and miss in both our room and on the rooftop.In summary, this is a hotel with so much potential but I would not return in a rush until improvements are made.
