Tom Lovett: I cannot recommend this school enough. I am absolutely amazed that. I'm able to have spontaneous conversations with locals about a host of topics, considering I only did four weeks of classes, starting from zero. I was worried that doing well in classes wouldn't carry over to the real world, but that has not been the case at all.The classes themselves were really enjoyable. My teachers were great, the other students were great. We cracked plenty of jokes while still learning new grammar and vocabulary.The school was very helpful when it came to logistics as well. I literally enrolled on a Friday afternoon for Monday morning classes. Also, the school allowed me to print documents and received a package for me.Cannot recommend this school highly enough.
Laura Shadley: Had a wonderful experience at Centro Catalina - Cartagena. The instructors and staff were outgoing and helpful. School always flew by because it was so much fun. I was nervous to speak with people in Spanish, but I gained a lot of confidence while I was there! The school organized a lot of fun activities that allowed you to experience more of the city. They also organized a trip to Isla Grande on the weekend, which was incredible! I stayed with an awesome host family very close to the school. I can't say enough good things!

The facilities, the staff, the teachers and the way they teach are top notch! Every day they have an activity for the afternoon and also for the weekends, like salsa class, movies, city- or graffiti-tours, etc. Also the school is in the middle of centeo historico and so you can find many restaurants, bars and shops just next to it! Connor Saxton: After reviewing several different language schools and teachers in Cartagena I took Spanish lessons at Babel. The partnership with the dance school brought great value to the package. The teachers there were good quality. I had lessons with Tania and got to know Esmeralda too. Overall it was an enriching experience for me and a great way to get amongst the scene in the city.

I had the chance to meet the owner Esmeralda who takes us to different great experiences there in Cartagena. We have been diving in the islands, eating in great local restaurants, surfing in the best spots, dancing Salsa in the best salsa school of Cartagena "crazy salsa" which is also her school. Everything was perfect. On the top of that, I had the chance to make a lot of friends that were having classes in Babel.. I had booked one month of class and 3 weeks on this total was private class. Definitely the best service in town. The whole building has just been renovated, classes are clean and teachers amazing, they take all the time you need to go into details... They generally propose their help for everything you need and local homestay to even more practice your Spanish. I don't know what else to say except that this school is the perfect starting point to deeply discover this incredible city that Cartagena is. Long life to the best spanish school of Cartagena!

Max Olsen: I had an amazing time at Babel. It didn’t feel like an obligation to go to school, rather I looked forward to it. My teacher Tania taught me grammar and vocabulary but we also just had random conversations in Spanish as well. I made friends with my classmates and went out with them after class nearly every day. I made connections that will last me for a lifetime.
Nick D'Urso (dursonj): I met the owner Esmeralda through a friend of mine and took classes with Tania for a week. The classes were amazing and really helped me out with the functions of Spanish I had forgotten from when I was a kid in school. I took a placement test to see where I would be placed and I felt great with what I was learning for the week. When I go back I will definitely take more classes! I would highly recommend this school for anyone spending time in Cartagena. It's in a perfect location and an awesome place to learn. The teachers and everyone are just fantastic. I really mean it.

The Babel school had not so many students and none on my level so I received private lessons. Perfect! God, patient teachers and other staff and laidback atmosphere. The school is located right outside the old town. Free group dance class for all the students enrolled in a course. It’s recommended!

The classes were small so the teacher could respond to individual needs. In general everyone was very friendly and helpful.Another plus: free salsa lessons are included too.Definitely recommendable!

The market tour was such a unique experience - we wouldn't have ever done it by ourselves (chaotic wouldn't begin to describe the markets) but getting to meet the vendors and try so many fruits we hadn't ever heard of beforehand was a fabulous experience. (Also, if you are nervous about going to a busy market like this, I wasn't nervous at all with Maria - it was clear she knew what she was doing and where to go for the friendliest vendors. Everyone was just busy going about their business, and it was actually surprisingly clean and fresh smelling too, except for the fish & meat area of course)Then the cooking class itself was such a great experience. We love going to cooking classes and do it in a lot of places we travel to, but this one was unique in that we were all (about 8 of us plus Maria) cooking one big meal together. This meant that we got to learn how to make a ton of different things and each contribute as we went. The food in the end was delicious (mote de queso, ceviche, and the posta negra cartagenera) - the best meal we had in Cartagena - and the venue was really cute and fun.We recommend this as an experience for everyone traveling to Cartagena! Would do it again in a heartbeat - thanks so much Maria!

More experienced divers may not have this problem and it seems like other first-time divers rated this company highly, but personally as an inexperienced diver I did not feel safe. I did the PADI Open Water course and though I liked my instructor, I didn't like the way the school or my instructor operated. I expected to start in a pool or shallow water and was surprised to immediately be put on a boat and taken out to open water. The instruction I received before we started diving felt quick and inadequate to me. There were many moments that my online PADI training helped me keep myself safe, but had I not remembered that training I believe I would have been in danger as I don't think that important safety lessons were emphasized. There was one moment where remembering my online training prevented me from inhaling water 30-40 feet below the surface, which has been haunting me ever since. I also felt like my concerns were dismissed when I pointed out that we were swimming super close to the coral. I really wish the best for everyone who works here, but I also want safety-concerned inexperienced divers to be aware that there are probably better options. And if the school is not pleased by this review, I hope that motivates them to review their training and policies.
Mario M: They are both fully equipped and locally owned. Their crew was friendly and very knowledgeable. Special tks to Edwin!. Isabel showed me a lot and she knew how to elevate my experience in the water through all 4 immersions. I did buoyancy and Nitrox specialties. Everything was planned and taken care in a fashion timely matter (Tks to Alberto). I fully recommend them either if you are a beginner or an advance diver. The diving sites include sunken Army boats and pristine coral reefs around BARU island just a few minutes away from Cartagena.

Claudia Barrios: We had a great experience with Cartagena Divers. We did 2 days (4 dives), all in different sites. The owners and crew are extremely professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They all went out of their way to make sure we were happy with the dive sites, gear and payment process. When we asked about photos, (we don’t have any from previous dives) they were quick to set that up for us, we tipped Ana for the photos because she did an amazing job, and she was using her own gopro camera and flash light. Alberto, also took photos with his own camera after he found out we didn’t have any photos from our previous dives, he was super helpful and provided valuable advice about which masks to purchase. He even offered to treat and prep our newly purchased masks before our first dive. They have a good selection of masks! Shout out to Daniel and Ana, our dive guides, both super friendly and knowledgeable. We felt very safe during the dives and the crew was super fun.
